Is our keeper a keeper?

No idea how to do a poll.
But what do people think about Ming.

A) He should remain our number one. He's young and will improve.
B) We need another good keeper to compete with him for number one spot.
C) Reina should return.
D) he's shit. We need a much better keeper if we're going to win anything.

Personally, as I've said on here, I think we could upgrade considerably. His shot-stopping invariably sees the ball palmed back into the path of onrushing strikers. His distribution is poor, he's weak on crosses and he doesn't command his area. He also doesn't seem to be very vocal or communicate very clearly with his defenders. apart from that he's alright...

He's not 'shit' but I think he has too many areas to work on that I think are inherenet of a person's personality. E.g. leadership, commanding his area, knowing when to come for a ball (confidence).. His shot stopping is great but then that is the case for a lot of keepers.

Just watch Neuer yesterday and he was so often grabbing the ball out of the air in the box. Last season they were the balls we would be seeing Ming leave to the defense and then quite often concede from.

Neuer is the ultimate keeper.

Mignolet can and must improve. Pepe couldn't be arsed so is hardly a good alternative.

Mingolet is a nice lad and decent shot stopper but he isn't my kind of keeper.

He isn't vocal enough for me and doesn't command his area with a presence. He doesn't come off his line and when he does it's usually ill advised. I'm not saying get rid or anything too drastic but he doesn't inspire me with as much confidence as I would like.

we should flog him, put Reina back in while finding a better replacement. on the plus side, the defense will get a lot more help with him coming off his line more, we get a decent amount of what we paid for ming back.

A

He's a very good shot stopper and is young for a goalkeeper. He was the 2nd best goalkeeper in the league after Begovic in 12/13 and its a big season for him now. Needs to step up in and develop in the areas that have been highlighted but desereves another season imho.

He probably took his time to adjust from Sunderland to Liverpool, but that isnt an excuse this season.

Getting Reina back shouldnt be an option. He wasnt good enough before he went to Napoli and certainly isnt now.

What Dave G says is indeed correct. But that would mean the gaffer eating an awful lot of humble pie.

Just can't see Reina coming back. Especially on the money he's on. He's too vocal in the dressing room for Rodgers to eat humble pie. If Napoli, a team challenging for Seria A and in the champions league are thinking twice about having him back on 100k, then why should we? Lets move on. Mignolet deserves another season imo. Albeit while being pushed to his limit by a new, younger, more hungry keeper who won't be eating 100k of wages should he not happen to make our first 11.

Reina made more mistakes in his last season with us than Mignolet did this season

If reina is a option for us up go mortified

I'd give him another season, but be ready to bring someone in next year, or even have a young keeper bought and on loan like Chelsea did.

Based on last season he's not good enough, but he has enough good parts to his game to hope he can improve the others.

Buy Darlow or wheoever is the next big thing and bin off Reina

Mignolet needs to learn to be a sweeper

It is hard to quantify 'mistakes' as quite often not coming off his line and collecting a cross would be a mistake, but wouldn't be so obvious. I do agree though, Reina was full of errors and I personally wouldn't be looking for him to return.

I agree. However a lot of the mistakes attributed to Mignolet is down to dodgy defending positions

He could be more commanding, I'd agree to that

Sell him.... Along with Lallana, Lambert & Markovic - they've all contributed nothing.

Sturridge too - he hasn't scored this season yet - waste of money.

Maybe we should give Markovic a chance, as he hasn't actually signed yet, but agree about the rest.

He's a bit shit.
He's a better shot stopper, probably, than Reina but I'd still prefer the current declined Reina.

I'm sure there will be examples of me being wrong but I can't remember many incidents of him costing us points last season. I can remember tons with Pepe.

Just think of Pepe and his near post and things get so much better

Ha! May I remind you of this thread:

http://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/index.php?threads/every-goal-weve-leaked-this-season.28205/

I stopped adding goals after the Europa League elimination in Feb 2013 because it was a lot of work trying to catch up all the goals at one go. I should've done it on a weekly basis so it wasn't so painful. Anyway, I didn't do anything for the 2013/2014 season and that probably was a good thing 'cos I'd have been overworked the way we were leaking goals.

Anyway, just do a search for "Reina" in the browser and count the number of times he was highlighted. Not everytime he was mentioned was he to blame but quite a lot of the time he was part of the problem. To be fair, I can't claim to be unbiased or always making the correct call when I did that analysis. 🙂

I think also, this line from a subsequent reply I posted in that thread warrants bringing up again:

Also, I think someone posted a stat line from Opta Joe about Reina's mistakes directly leading to 8 goals, I wasn't sure whether that was an exaggerated figure, and wanted to relook at which occasions those were; turns out the stat line looks correct!

Okay, I guess it's clear where I stand in terms of bringing back Reina to replace Mig.

His flappy hands vs City wasn't much demonstration of his "very good shot stopper".. (not attributing that quote to you..)

At first I was right behind the guy thinking he was just nervous at a new club but after a whole season I think his line hugging has been even more apparent!

Also, this. Mignolet for Liverpool -versus- Reina for Napoli:

Fewer games, fewer minutes, but almost same number of mistakes and mistakes leading to goals. Higher wages, bigger mouth. Do not want.

Its his 5th season as a PL goalkeeper next year, he really needs to step up and grow some balls now, if he doesn't that will surely be it for his Liverpool career.

Reina took the right piss with all the flirting with Barca, basically saying as soon as they came in he was off, sod him, if he was still top class you might forgive him but he isn't anywhere near what he was 5/6 years ago, probably still a better goalkeeper than Mig though.
