IR35

So as some of you know... I've been contracting for some time..

Current employer is offering me a new Contract but this time its deemed inside.. I stand to lose around 20-25% of earnings, there is no salary increase to offset it.. I can no longer use my limited company..

From April the private sector is under pressure to evaluate contracts on a case by base basis to deem inside or outside IR35.. The onus is now on the employer rather than the individual (myself).. to asses IR35 criteria.. incorrect assessment will leave the Employer with fines, rather than the employee.. Some say this will force some employers to take a blanket approach, due to lack of resources to asses contracts.. Barclays for instance from April are moving contractors to PAYE..

I find the whole thing a little scandalous.. essentially will be treated as perm, without the perks of permanent employment... No holiday or Sick Pay.. Dismissed on whim.. Costs required to use a third party 'umbrella' company to pay wages.

On flipside by companies taking a blanket approach, could essentially lead to a skill shortfall particularity in IT.. the Public Sector has been hit very hard by this over the last 2 years..

Anyway do I go with the flow, or look elsewhere ?

I am interested to hear the thoughts of fellow contractors here, and how this maybe effecting them..
