The battle for Liverpool Football Club’s ownership became hotter on Thursday with Indian billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Subrata Roy jumping into the fray to buy Liverpool.

Mukesh Ambani, who owns Reliance Industries Ltd, India’s largest company by market capitalization, and Subrata Roy who owns Sahara Group that sponsored the Indian cricket team, have submitted their bids to buy the team, popular tabloid The Lying Rag reported.

The move comes nine months after their reported failure to buy a 51 percent stake in the Anfield outfit, which Ambani had denied.

Indian billionaires will now face the Chinese government in the battle to buy the Reds, joining at least four other interested buyers including Chinese sports tycoon Kenny Huang.

The Anfield auction is now wide open, the report said.

"Some potential buyers have declared their interest but haven't tabled a bid, whereas Ambani and Roy have put their money on the table. At this stage Liverpool are happy to let everyone compete against each other to squeeze out the best possible deal," the report quoted an unnamed insider as saying

Ambani, 53, was buoyed by the success as a franchise owner of a cricket team in India that played at the popular annual cricket tourney Indian Premier League. He is valued at around $19.86 billion and is rated India's richest man.

Ambani's fellow billionaire Roy, 62, is head of Sahara Group, a sprawling conglomerate worth more than $7.94 billion, who is also sponsoring the Indian hockey team. He won the franchise bid recently to own another cricket team that will play in the next year's Indian Premier League cricket tournament.

Hmm indian or chinese?

More of a chinese fan myself -ive not tried any syrian cuisine however...

I want the best hand chopper offers the world can offer. Our club deserves nothing less.

This takeover scramble is making me hungry.

If the Thais get involved I'm screwed!

Don't piss off the boss or you'll get the sack?

I'm not fussed about who the highest bidder is. I want an owner with obvious love for the club with business savvy. The Far East market has unlimited merchandising and partner sponsorship potential.

One thing seems guaranteed, we'll have new owners!

Personally I perfer the these guys. Mega rich and all their own money. No shady tie ups with any government investment arms, just their own dough and they have lots of it.

Roland although talks are clearly at an advanced level its not done yet,and also each one of those currently involved in bids have been here before sniffing around, g&h wil also no doubt do what they can to keep hold of the club kicking and screaming.

G&H don't have a prayer. I like Kenny Huang's hostile takeover bid approach. Nothing would give me greater satisfaction than to see those profiteers walk away empty handed. They deserve nothing for bringing our club to its knees.

You're aware the hostile approach has been rubbished by RBS ?

Yes Rosco, I'm aware of it but at this point its all smoke and mirrors. I can't wait for the dust to settle though.

Something big is surely afoot!

Nah not yet, they're conducting of full review of the stream that funds the project I run, that will take until October, so more uncertainty for the next few months unfortunately.

Thanks for asking though.

The hostile approach is actually quite brilliant and very possible, but it will not happen. BUT, It will though force G&H to be reasonable.

RBS holds the power right now. They can call the loan at almost any time and G&H will default and get nothing. RBS can also sell the loan (loans are bought and sold all the time) and let someone else play the bad guy and call in the loan and G&H will default and get nothing. RBS also has very good reasons for not alienating the CIC, since the CIC is the largest investor in government debt in the world and the British government (which owns RBS) is quite good at spending money at the moment and needs a reliable source of credit.

Therefore, G&H had better stop asking for a ridiculous payout, because they could get nothing very easily. I expect a "settlement" that provides them a modest return on their investment - maybe 10% and the deal is done.

Some will say that the shareholders must approve the deal. This is likely true. But if the club defaults on the debt which is secured by the ownership in same club, then RBS are the shareholders - and they are likely to approve.

So, I think anyone is wise to threaten to negotiate directly with RBS, but Huang certainly has the most leverage (with CIC) is this game.

Lovely....

On a personal level, yes & no. They will fight to save $1 on a taxi fare .... and then splash US$20,000 on a handbag (LV sell the world's most expensive handbag exclusively in China) or $3M on a new villa. On a corporate / investment level - they spend fortunes at the drop of a hat.

Ah yes old and newly rich are different. And yes penny wise pound foolish (if it is on a bet, speculations, gambling and face).

Our papers reporting today that they've both 'emphatically' denied any interest in the club.

Stingy, perhaps however one just need look at the exhorbitant amounts of money they throw at the IPL for example to realise that the possibility of big spending on players is indeed very possible.
Ambani and his brother are 2 of the top 10 richest men on the planet, Roy is not far off and then there's guys like Mallya and Mittal. All these guys are stupidly mega rich and love nothing better than to out do each other. And if one of them has to acquire us, I believe it's safe to say that big spending won't be just a dream.
