For me, it all comes down to the pace of the game.
And for this reason right now, is exactly why we have seen English clubs dominate the Italians and Spaniards in Europe.
In Italy and Spain, the players are taught how to play a more controlled, slower pace of football.
In England, players are being taught to play fast paced football... but exactly why English clubs are dominating now is because of imports who bring in a high standard of technical quality to go with the faster paced football.
It is much easier to learn how to play fast paced football, and then be coached into learning how to play a slower brand of football.
It is much much harder to teach a player how to play at a faster tempo, if that player from a young age was only taught how to play a slower brand of football.
It works every way though... players can fail for different reasons... a lot of players go to Italy from EPL and La Liga and fail to adapt.
Gaizka Mendieta is a classic example from Valencia to Lazio - failed big time - and he was a fantastic player.
