I'm worried

No, not about Suarez leaving, or even Reina leaving, or Skrtel, Carragher (retiring), Coates and Downing potentially leaving. I'm worried that a large number of players, very influential players, could be leaving this summer. This summer was meant to be about trimming the fat and complimenting the squad with some new talented additions, however we're going for a massive overhaul (not by choice), and it's not going to be good for the team, a lot of big, important characters are going to leave, and whilst each one leaving can be justified on their own, all together it's going to take us two steps backwards.

It's a large number of players from the seventh place team.

We're not breaking up a title winning side, we're breaking up a bunch of losers.

I thought this was going to be about climate change or 3D printing or airborne HIV or the inevitable massive financial crash just around the corner.

If you're worried about us getting any worse, don't. We're already 7th. We're not going to get so much worse that West Brom or whichever cunts came 8th overtake us. Worry about normal things, like that lump on your bollock or russia's missing stockpile of nukes.

I worry all the time so this is nothing new to me.
As an aside complimenting the squad would mean going up to the players and saying 'you're looking well, I like your hat.' Complementing the squad would be adding to it to reach perfection.
Sorry can't help myself 😉

Quite, but it did at least feel like we were building towards something this season, losing so many players feels like we will be going back a season. One of those players is also fantastically good.

I think the last two might be related.

Nope I was right, I'm expecting a summer of Brendan telling Skrtel how nice his hair is, and so on.

Is this thread about Eriksen!?!?

Oh right. In that case I withdraw my comment. Coutinho had wonderfully lustrous curls. He shouldn't have cut them off. I would stay way from beginning to compliment our players on their tattoos as the summer is only a few short months long.

I think it's important to have a settled side, but I agree with Ross on this.
We cant have a settled side that consists of losers.

It's pretty bold, borderline to sheer stupidity, to call the likes of Suarez and Reina losers though.

I'm worried too, if we sell a load its another season 'rebuilding' season like the one we just had. When exactly do we challenge for fourth then 2014/15 season?

I know that a lot of the team aren't great or haven't been playing well but the wise man didn't build his house on the sand, we need something to work with going forward 😀 . Losing Skrtel, either of the fullbacks, the keeper, Suarez and any others might not be disastrous on their own but en masse it's gonna slow any progress.

I agree. The only exception being Suarez.
The positives/good performers from the team last season: Suarez, Gerrard, Coutinho, Sturridge, Enrique, Carra.
We're losing Carra, and possibly Suarez. I like Reina and hope he stays but as far as I'm concerned the rest can be replaced without much disruption.

Yep Rosco is correct.
Apart from Gerrard and Suarez the rest of the squad is totally replaceable.

I'm really tempted to buy a 3D printer, but I'll know I'll end up making crappy plastic houses (or something really easy to draw in CAD) and it will be a complete waste of money

i'm convinced we will win the title or come second if we can keep suarez and reina. man city, chelsea and manure will all be in transition and weaker than normal. spurs will hopefully have to rebuild post-Bale. It will be between us and Arsenal...

When was the last time a team went from finishing 7th to being champions in 2 consecutive season, Im sure it has happened but probably not in the modern era. Title are won by squads now, not 1 or 2 top class players, it takes time to build those resources, similarly teams are not destroyed by the loss of one or two players.

Look at Arsenal, sold all of their best players over the last 5 years and are exactly where they were 5 years ago. Its the same reason we have all been saying 'this is the season when Utd will start to fall apart" when they got rid of Stam, Schmeichel, Cantona, Beckham, Van Nistleroy, Keane, Ronaldo etc and yet it never happens, players are replaced and the loss of one member of a squad can be balanced out by others. Obviously no club wants to lose their top players but out of those listed in the original post Suarez would be the only real loss, all of the others are either being pushed (Skrtel,Carroll, Coates, Downing etc) to make way for better players or have passed their peaks and can be replaced (Carra, Reina)

It's time to get the graph out and check where we are on the curve.

its not until August that we hit the downward spiral of hopes and aspirations.

Here's another idea.

Man Utd's new manager is in a position, not of rebuild, but if "he just has to not fuck it up" to challenge for the title.

New managers might actually get more out of the expensively assembled squads of City & Chelsea.

Arsenal aren't loosing anyone of significance.

Spurs - I grant you will need to improve.

It's by no means certain we will challenge the top 4 - we have to, but it isn't and shouldn't be easy.
