As 99% of transfer rumours are utter arse gravy I'm not holding out much hope for this. But Iker Casillas to us in Jan would make me very happy, even at 36. Imagine having a keeper in the dressing room who knows how to organise a defence, and has won everything possible. I believe we would improve immediately. The best keepers have little to do precisely because they help stop attacks and shots on goal before they need to fling themselves about.
What do we think?

Iker might make you happy in January but by February you'd have had enough of him.

Just like Porto have.

Yeah he was going backwards since his time at Real Madrid...became a liability. He's finished.

talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire.

id rather Danny Ward got a go and one of mongolet and the other joker went out on loan/back to goalkeeper school

He's miles better than our calamities. He'd be our Van der Sar.

Van De Sar had played for years in the Premiership before United signed him and is six inches taller.

Casillas is very small for a keeper and is fucking dreadful under high balls, and that's not even in the Premiership, where it would be even more calamitous.

Awful, shit idea.

It's amazing how being a "name" and once playing for a big club can get you so many lucrative transfers despite being shit and past it.

Joe Cole being a pertinent example, although Morientes runs him close, as does Reidle.

No fucking way.

Before I came in to this thread, I read an article and thought to myself Iker Casillas with one hand would be better than what we've got at the minute, but having considered it, I'm thinking of the World Cup Winning, Real Madrid legend, in his prime Casillas, which we wouldn't get.

He is short, and would struggle with the Premier League like most goalkeepers do for a season, at his age, at that stage in his career, no thanks.

Fuck no, he's been in decline for years, is short, old, lost his reflexes which made him great, terrible on crosses and speaks poor English.

No fucking thanks and that says a lot as I hate our current no1 & no2

His last 18 months for Real Madrid he was awful. Flapping at crosses and giving away easy goals. He only lasted so long because he was a legend there but eventually they had to get rid. Gone to Porto and is mainly on the bench....plus he's short. Fuck that.

Yeah, we clearly need someone, so hopefully there's no smoke without fire and this means we are in the hunt for someone. Hopefully not Iker, as said though.

Anyone got a good resource for seeing who is available on a free in Jan?

It's not an idea, it's a barely credible transfer rumour. Just so you know.

To be fair I would take him and get rid of both Mings and Karius.

A. because they are both shite and there is a traffic cone outside work that I would feel safer with in our goal than them 2.
B. because he will be a cracking player to have training alongside Danny Ward. Ward is likely to learn alot more from a legend like him than off them other 2 clowns.

People aren't discussing the veracity of this as a rumour, they are - quite understandably and to the benefit of the discussion in question - discussing the idea of Casillas joining Liverpool.

Just so you know.

It hasn't been that long since Alex Manninger entered my thoughts as being a potential improvement, so Casillas is a no brainer.

Well we're not happy with Ming or Karius and Ward is currently injured, and doesn't seem to be high up Klopp's priorities so really could he be any worse than what we've got for the rest of the season? Worse case is he can at least act as inspiration and improve training.

I think it was disturbing to see Mignolet revert to his earlier incarnations last week against Spurs, up until last season he always cost us points and yet again he didn't help us last week.... disturbing....

Iker Casillas was one of the best goalkeepers in the world for a very long time but judging by his lack of team at the minute his past glories may well be past him I would certainly be interested to see if he can still do the business. Whether Casillas is past his best or not I am fairly sure Mignolet will never be anywhere near as good... time for a bit more ruthlessness from the boss perhaps.... a really good experienced winning Goalkeeper would be a plus.
