Well this is certainly left-field

Liverpool have made an offer to FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas and already has a pre-contract offer, say reports in Spain.

According to Diario AS, the former Real Madrid goalkeeper has received offers from the Premier League, Qatar China and Turkey but would favour a move to Anfield.

The 36-year-old is ‘determined to leave’ the Portuguese club after spending two years at Estadio do Dragao, where he moved to in 2015 from Madrid.

Casillas initially signed a two-year contract with Os Dragoes and whilst he has the option of a one-year contract extension, he has not yet signed it despite indicating in 2016 he would be keen to exercise the choice.

The experienced shot-stopper has enjoyed a vintage campaign, conceding only 23 goals in 43 appearances but his side missed out on the title to Benfica for the fourth successive year.

AS concludes the report by stating Casillas ‘will probably be very far away’ from Porto when they return for pre-season training in July.

This would potentially facilitate a Karius loan - I'm for it.

Loan Karius to a premiership side or even Huddersfield (if promoted and let Ward/Karius fight it out there for a season).

Woosh.

Iker less about the GK position now that Minge has pulled his finger out.

Not that it says a lot but thought I'll post it since Casillas' name is there.

[article]Real Madrid and Spanish goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas is having a fantastic time in Portugal with Porto. The Spaniard is having a good time in Portugal, which he credits to the quieter style of life, away from all the intense limelight that he had on him during his time in the Spanish capital. The 35-year-old joined Porto from Real Madrid in 2015 after spending almost 20 years at the Bernabeu.

Despite winning 18 major trophies, breaking Paco Buyo’s record to become Real Madrid’s most capped goalkeeper and winning the IFFHS World’s best goalkeeper five times, Casillas never managed to keep more than 15 clean sheets in a single league season.

However, during Porto’s victory over Arouca, the 2010 World Cup winner won his 16th clean sheet of the season, a feat he never achieved before in over 20 seasons as a professional. This incredible form of the former Los Blancos stop-stopper hasn’t gone unnoticed by the national team manager, with rumours that the former captain may be called up.

His previous best clean-sheet figure across a single league season has been 15, which he achieved three times during the 04/05 season, 05/06 season and 09/10 season with Real Madrid.[/article]

[article]Oliver Torres hopes Porto teammate Iker Casillas will continue for another season at the club despite speculation that the goalkeeper will leave this summer.

A Bola recently reported that Casillas, 36, has yet to exercise a clause in his contract that would allow him to remain at Porto for a further season.

Reports in Spain have claimed that the former Real Madrid keeper is wanted by clubs in China, Qatar and Turkey, but the Premier League could be his preference with speculation suggesting that he has agreed a precontract with Liverpool.

"We're on holiday now but I'm in contact with Iker," Torres told Onda Cero. "I'm looking forward to seeing him in preseason. I really hope he can continue with us."

A Bola reported that Casillas' wages of €5 million per season are a problem for Porto, who are trying to cut down on costs.

Madrid have reportedly been paying up to 50 percent of his wages since he left the club in 2015, but that will cease this summer with Porto having to come up with the full amount.

Casillas has just completed his second campaign at Porto and kept 23 clean sheets while conceding 23 goals in 43 games for the club, who finished runners-up to Benfica in the Primeira Liga.

The former Spain captain has remained tight-lipped about his future and recently posted a message on his Twitter account thanking the Porto fans for the support this past season.[/article]
