Well.... You know the way Liverpool filled the MCG with 95,000 people last week?

What you probably didn't know, was that Everton came to Melbourne 2 years ago for a pre-season friendly against Melbourne Heart @ Ethiad Stadium (where the Lions Test was played).

Unfortunately only 19,261 people could be arsed watching it.

I'm sure some of you will have use for that stat.

Two consecutive weeks ; 83,000 (Jakarta) & 95,000 (Melbourne). Only 3 teams in the world other than ourselves capable of those figures. Just amazing - the Indonesians even learnt to sing our songs in a Scouse accent. Now that's dedication.

Yes, Barca, Real and mancs. That's it. Even Bayern don't come close in terms of the world-wide appeal. We need to get back to the top quickly though not to lose it.

for those who aren't scouse, the official efc store is an an area of town called liverpool one. they called the store everton two.

Heh, the club I was playing for at the time were given 50 tickets for that match (for free) and we couldn't use them all up. I had 4 tickets for it, and could only get rid of one.

I see hairy Leighton carries a guitar - he does come across as one of those sad twats who pulls it out at the back of the bus or towards the end of wedding parties & generally pisses people off playing Miss American Pie

More good news for the bluenoses:

Joey Barton wants to play for his beloved Everton - and will take a 50 per cent pay-cut to make the move happen.

Barton is back at Queens Park Rangers after a year in exile on loan at French side Marseille, and Hoops boss Harry Redknapp is even considering playing him in Saturday's Championship season opener against Sheffield Wednesday.

But the fiery midfielder's agent has made contact with the Goodison club's new manager Roberto Martinez to ask if they want him.

Barton grew up on Merseyside as an Everton fan and is dreaming of a sensational switch in his characteristically unpredictable but single-minded style.

Talks about a massive pay-off at QPR to make a return to Marseille financially viable are faltering, leaving Barton to consider his dream option.

And the 30-year-old has now told the Toffees that he would accept half of his current £70,000-a-week salary to make it happen.

Barton is even willing to join Everton for training to prove that his fitness matches his desire - and Martinez is giving the idea serious thought.

The controversial star has been a target for the blue half of Merseyside many times before, with David Moyes often looking into the idea during his reign.

Finance was a problem in the past, but now Barton could help to make it happen.
