No reason to be afraid to say it mate, I would think the vast majority if not 100% of the forum would agree. I certainly do and feel he would of made of an impact so far this season than Alonso in terms of points gained.

at a risk of being whoooshed here, I would say we missed Sami more than Xabi.

THATS WHAT'S BEEN WRONG THIS SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's indicative of Sami's ability, that he used to get through whole seasons without a single yellow card. How many Premiership CB's can say that?

However I think he went at the right time. If he were still with us, he would be getting the kind of flak that Skrtel is getting now.

We haven't.

Macca's comment about Sami the other day was absolutely spot on.

What did Macca say? Linky?

I miss Sami and was only thinking this earlier on before I saw the thread.
How is he doing?
I think Portly is right though (of course I would wouldn't I?), although we can't exactly say he went out at the top,he was still bloody good, he went out with a lot of credit, respect and admiration. Would one more season have been one too far, and potentially tarnished his status even slightly. He will in our eyes be forever good.
The sooner he returns to the staff the better.

regards

Sami featured in all 14 league games at Leverkusen so far. He made one assist and no goal. Bayer Leverkusen are top of the league at the moment.

In 'Kicker's (Germany's most important sport newspaper) Sami is ranked as 6th best player of the Bundesliga so far. He's been in Kicker's team of the week 4 times.

I think I said something to the effect that he sounds like he's become faster and younger since he left. Not many people last season were complaining he wasn't playing enough. We all loved him and wouldn't have minded him getting a few more games, but it wasn't high on the agenda (and the 'He's too slow these days' line was never far away). He left because he wanted to finish his days as a regular starter, and, if we're honest, that wasn't possible here. He would have been wonderful to bring in during the injury crisis, but neither he nor we anticipated such fresh hell as that.

It's arguable IMO, we've been shaky at the back a helluva lot, & our lack of aerial ability has contributed to a great many of our goals this season, in fact it's been the main factor, he would have stabilised that for sure.

whislt he would've stabilized it, we only notice hes missing due to our form and how we need him now. Going by last season we didnt need him, he was a delightful luxury. Hindsight is 20/20 etc

This is certainly not meant to be disrespectful to Sami, but the Bundesliga sounds akin to the Scottish Premier League in that case.
I am made up for Sami that it is working out and the plan worked.

Disagree. Any team wanting to put up a credible title challenge needs four CBs of at least adequate quality.

Here's an interview with Sami. I think he's happy at Leverkusen.

Hmm...remember that Bundesliga is a very attackminded league (and it´s actually a pretty good league) so he must have been doing very well. I think he was captain against Bayern Munchen (1-1).

I think you underestimate the Bundesliga a bit. It really has improved over the last few years. It certainly has much more pace than some years ago. Teams like Wolfsburg, Bremen, Leverkusen or Schalke ave catched up and now are serious title contenders among the always strong Bayern team. They aren't doing bad in Europe too.

Sami is really doing a great job in Leverkusen. And he's already a fan favourite which nobody will surprise I guess.

I just hope he doesn't get TOO popular there and stays on as a coach! We want him back.
you have to wonder is sami helped coach set pieces behind the scenes because we have completely gone to pieces at set pieces now that sami is no longer part of the squad.

it must had killed sami to watch the hapless skrtel get ahead of him in the team week after week.
Skrtel had a very good season last time out. We were very solid and winning alot of games. Sami didn't have much to complain about in my opinion.

I think Skrtel is playing quite well this season, but is being made the scapegoat for our general defensive inadequacies.

he's been all over the place this season. to be fair he has been the only one.

I miss this other bloke, one who actually used to play most games. In the middle of the park, one who could have actually made a difference to our season so far.

Hes having a poor season as are most of the team.

He seems to be a bit indecisive in his play and isn't dealing with situations and doing the basics right. The Man City game summed his season up so far when Tevez took the ball from him and they worked it well resulting in Ireland scoring.

He just needs to get some confidence back, re-establish his no nonsense approach to defending and im sure he will be fine.

I don't think so. When you look at our back four, I like Insua but he is inexperienced and makes defensive mistakes, Carra is showing worrying signs of slowing down and struggling at times, and Johnson is not a specialist defender.
