Where has this myth come from that you can completely fucking wipe out a player as long as you get the faintest touch on the ball first?

That's how I roll

It's hard to judge intent, but they should try. I hate the way a potentially leg-breaking challenge is deemed okay if it narrowly misses its 'target'.

I dont see the the problem? If you go for the ball and nothing else and get the ball, who gives a fuck if your opponent misses and fucks it up?
Too much fannying around in the sport as it is, people diving and rolling around after the slightest of touches like they've been double footed in the face.

Some of our greatest players made their names making such challenges I would love to see more of them.

My issue is more when people go in unecessarily hard (which according to the FA rulebook you can't do) clearly trying to rough up the opponent on the basis that if they touch the ball first it's ok. There was a guy a few years ago that nailed Didi on the shin but touched the ball first and seemed to think this was ok (Essien maybe?)

Yeah, I thought you could too.

I did it at drinkies footy too, if memory serves me correctly.

I think if you remove that from the game it becomes basketball. Football is contact, provided the ball wasnt at midriff height when the opponent went for it, then yeah, I dont see a problem with it.

That's different, if they're going for the player 3/4 & the ball 1/4 then becomes dangerous & they're doing it with intent.

I'm thinking of the challenges where you go in at the ball as hard as you can & then your momentum take you through the player, not where you hit both at exactly the same time as an excuse to main someone.

Im all for it. Physically and mentally it gives you a big advantage. You pussyfoot into tackles and the opponent team thinks they own you next time you go in for one. You smash the fucker and win the ball and they will think twice about going for the ball at all.

Those tackles happen in every park and playground all over the world its part of the game, if you take that out it it'l be a poorer game.
