..any more games in 2009*

In all of last Season we lost three games in the Premiership, and though I'm not backing us to achieve the same amazing stat, I'm sure we will now go on a prolonged unbeaten run lasting the year out at a bare minimum.

We've started far better in terms of play and style compared to last Season, where we looked completely mediocre for big parts of the the first three months, so even though we've lost games against Spurs, Villa and Chelski I'm sure we'll soon hit the ground running.

We were so obviously on par with Chelsea for most part of weekends game and it could've gone either way really. At this point in time they look like our fiercest competitor and as their style of football never really has suited us - and vise versa - it's probably the game of the year that we tend to struggle the most, at least ever since Roman came to London-town.

As soon as we get our back four sorted and back into shape, and there were good signs against the Chavs I might add, we'll be a real menace to face. I can see us beat United and Arsenal and I don't think there's any team outthere capable of beating us when we're playing at our best form - a form I think we're about to discover.

Maybe it's just a hunch, maybe it's extremely rose-tinted, but I don't think we'll lose another important game in the year of 2009.

*Apart from a Carling Cup-game maybe.

What a bold statement. I hope you didn't jinx it now.

I'm a little bit worried about the City game in November though.

I hope you'll be right.

no chance.

This season, we've been beaten by Villa and Spurs.....Mancs by Burnley and (almost Sunderland).....Chavs by Wigan (not to mention those last minute flukes earlier on in the season).....

This season, the defeats can roll from any which way - and to any side.

Factor in our 'main rivals games' and your asking for a near miracle.

Stranger things have happened.

But somehow I've got the feeling that this thread could be bumped a few times...

Didnt we only lose two last year?

And we've already hit the ground, and we certainly aint running.

Have you seen our defensive displays this season KHL?
That is a very bold statement to make in light of our next few opponents and the fact we can't seem to keep a clean sheet these days.

We'll lose two.

We won't draw any though.
Which would give us 45 points after 20 games, and on course for the title. I'd take that.

I'd probably take that as well.

I've just got this feeling that we're about to hit an extremely good run. I think it's been a bit of an eye-opener really that we've now already lost as many games as last Season (or even more if Piedro's right), and we are now going to get ourselves sorted. Having a few quality additions in Aquilani and Agger available soon as well as having players finding their best form in Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt, Masher, Skrtl and Carra, we'll be a tough team to match for anyone.

I can see us go on a unbeaten run for a long period in time. It may not happen but I'd gladly put a smaller wager on it.

*Please happen. I don't want this thread to hunt me untill come Christmas.

certainly possible.... we were not outplayed at all the other day, we matched them the favourites away from home.... its possible OK.

Agger plus one showing an imperious display on defense allowing only 1 to the champions while Torres and company go on a rampage together after Aquilani comes off the bench in the 65th minute. Torres again burning Vidic(played through by messiah). Aquaman then gets the winner. While Kuyt adds another from his thigh. Bout as much logic behind my statement as yours but I am optimistic enough to think it'll happen until proven wrong. And that includes your prediction. Lets go Redmen!

I hope your right but lets get through sunderland, lyon and the scum first. I wouldnt mind what happens in the carling cup if we win those 3. Plus lets hope everyone gets back unscathed from the internationals, with spain already qualified i hope Del Bosque rests Torres, but with David Villa doing his hamstring last sunday theres probably not much hope of that happening!

LOL where has this come from and where are you basing this on?

We can't afford lose many more.
If anyone would've told me prior to last Season that we'd only lose three games in the Premiership in total I would've thought they'd been drinking of the night-pot.

I do believe however that from what we saw in the Spring and from what we've seen in glimpses so far this Season that we're indeed capable of a run similar to the best we managed last year. Without as many draws even.

Our fiercest rivals seems at most on par if not weakened in terms of quality (Arsenal excluded by I'm not convinced they are ready to be a real threat over the course of a Season just yet) and we look like a better team - and although loosing Alonso has probably harmed us somewhat in the first games this Season, the inclusion of Johnson and Aquilani could make us an even better team in the long run.

Torres seems stronger and is already leading the goal-charts - and he hasn't even found his best form yet. Gerrard hasn't hit his best form yet either and we're getting players back from injury.

It's indeed doable that we won't loose another game in 2009 as I see it.

Even facing Sunderland is worrying me at the moment.
Well, me too.

A few good wins from now on and we'd be blessed with self-confidence though.

The game at Old Trafford could prove vital. If we manage to get at least one point at theirs we'll see a completely different team in terms of confidence I'm sure. Especially at the back.

I don't believe achieving a point at Old Trafford is key to restoring some sense of defensive stability.

For that to happen it will take intense work on the training ground to improve individual concentration and achieve a collective confidence. That's not to say a run of clean sheets won't help us, of course it will, but the real work starts at the training ground.

A few good wins?? Hope we get something at Manure. If Rafael plays Reira ahead of Benayoun and Skrtel ahead of Agger we wont get anything.

Ok. I was blatantly wrong.

It should've said;

I don't think we will lose another game this year, if we can keep balloons off the pitch.

For as bad as we've played in the past few games I'm still feeling pretty confident about this Season. It may seem overly optimistic at this point but I believe we could've actually endured the worst spell of the campaign already, and with a win come Sunday we'll only be 4 points adrift of United.

We'll batter Lyon and the United. And we won't lose another in 2009. Fo sure.
