Glen: I didn't get that from Rodgers' interview. As I recall it he spoke about people "playing off" Suarez, and I don't read that as referring only to players coming up from deep positions.

Mors (are you the Aussie of Maltese descent who used to be on here years ago BTW?): I don't want Sturridge as our main striker signing. He *can* play wide but doesn't want to, and the only team where he's managed to establish himself up front has been Bolton Wanderers when he went there on loan. There'll be a reason for that. I'd be willing to look at him as an addition to an established and successful squad IF his attitude's right, but we're not in that fortunate position yet.

No mate, I'm not.

I don't want him as our main striker either, as I think we'd be mad to currently move Suarez off the top the way he's scoring at the moment, especially for sturridge. I'm just thinking whether he goes for a player who can play wing forward and up top, like Sturridge and Walcott can. I don't see much point in buying a 'up top only' striker, only to have him on the bench as Suarez is playing out of his skin.

I also wouldn't want to move Suarez permanently from a position in which he's doing so well, but I reckon we need a player who can play up front with him so we have more goal threat, and/or replace him if he's injured/away on international duty/whatever. For me the wide positions are less of a priority - we have options there already, though we can always do with more.

If we *are* going to sign someone who can also play wide, IMO neither Sturridge nor Walcott is the way to go. Both of them have made it very clear that they do NOT want to play wide, so we'd only be storing up future trouble for ourselves when they react against being asked to do so. If we want a player who can play wide or up front equally effectively, Dempsey would have been ideal, but there you go.

What about him going back in for Sturridge? He seems more brendan's type of player, and can play wing forward or up top, is young, a grafter, english etc. I'd take huntelaar, but I think it's just talk from the fans living in cuckoo land, he wouldn't fit brendan's or fsg's policy, the way we play, and why would he come to a team that's not going to pay him silly money and isn't going to be back in the champs league for a year or two.
Not going to happen.
Someone remind me why this is a positive attribute again, I forget.

Someone like Michu would be perfect for us, creates and scores goals, plays in behind so we don't have to move Suarez and is pretty strong too and good in the air. He reminds me of Berbatov.

HUNTELAAR TO ARSENAL?
How much faith do you have in the inside knowledge of former Liverpool striker Erik Meijer?

None? Well, we will say that Meijer apparently has the same agent as Klass-Jan Huntelaar, so make of the following what you will.

Meijer is quoted in the Metro as saying: "According to the information I have, Huntelaar will be gone in the winter.

"Arsenal FC are the favourites to land him."

File this one under 'sceptical'.

Where would he fit? I'd be a bit worried if they got him, they already look great with Podolski & co. Still defensively shite though.

I think I'm off the Huntelaar bandwagon - we need a player who can feel comfortable on the 'wing' (hmmm1 mentioned Lavezzi - a player of that ability and comfort up front in any of the front 3 is what we need).

IF we can find a lavezzi in budget then amazing. I'm less than convinced though.

I'm with you LTW - sounded good only when you forget it means moving Suarez from the role he seems to be growing in to.

I'd prefer Walcott tbh - him and Sterling would offer pace & *cough* penetration out wide , plus both can play centre. Throw Borini and Assaidi into the mix and you've got good ingredients for a manager to work with.

We'll probably sign Hooper from Celtic who will probably outscore Huntelaar in the EPL IMO.

You rate him that highly P?
It's impossible to say for sure that he'll be a success at the top level but I used to watch him regularly for Scunthorpe and I thought he was way too good for that level. When Celtic signed him for £2m I told my Celtic mates they were getting an absolute bargain and he'd score shitloads and they'd sell him for £8m+ a few years later. I got that right i.e. he's scored shitloads, he wants to leave now, and they'll get at least £7-8m for him (it would be more if he had more than 1 year left on his contract).

I still believe he has what it takes to score goals at the highest level so I'll stick to my guns and predict he'll be a 20+ per season striker in the EPL. His movement is excellent, he is fairly quick and is a very clever player. Also, he's pretty ruthless in front of goal.

impressive, hopefully we decide to take a punt. HArdly extortionate amounts

I didn't say that, that's why I said, "we need a player who can feel comfortable on the 'wing'" ... Can interchange with Sterling and move into the forward role if Suarez vacates it when he goes looking for the ball.

If we cant match Huntelaars wages then Arsenal certainly cant fwiw.
Didnt he say that he'd see out the season anyway?

Why does Mad Erik even have an agent these days? Is he still in football? Has he ever really been in football? Is he working as a chef yet?

If he goes to Arsenal then we going to miss a top top class striker. Suarez and Huntelaar up front would be great combo.
