Huntelaar

Think he's too limited a footballer personally. Plus I swear he's slower than kuyt. We need more pace in the team. Walcott is in the form of his life at the moment and his crossing has improved a lot.

After a few days reflection, I have to admit, no matter how many times my brain says that we need a proven goalscorer, my heart just cannot get excited about Huntelaar.

Maybe it's because creativity is the quality I value above all in a footballer.

The FSG manual of valuing players says that buying players on form is BAD value.
We buy players who are really good but "going through a bad patch". It's the Liverpool way

Whwn was the last time we bought a player who was "going through a bad patch".

Or modus operandi is more like "overpay for a player based on a one-off bout of great form and thenlook suprised when he doesn't replicate it".

Having Huntelaar will do fuck all good unless the rest of the team can create chances for him in the box.
Then again we do put in some decent crosses, or players get to the byeline ready to cross low, only to find nobody at all inside the penalty area. So perhaps someone like Huntelaar's presence on the field might completely change the way the players perform in the final third.

oh ye didnt count say we were getting alonso and that we wernt allowed to talk about it? what happened there?

Not me, mate. I chose the username because, when I joined the site, he was about to do a rave near here and the posters were all over town.

I think Huntelaar is just what we need, scores loads inside the six yard box, good in the air , he is not the quickest of players, but has instinct, that prolongs their effective career.
Vlad's verdict: Buy

Agreed, it frustrates me when we don't have a player who just wants to be in the box - there are likely to be other players of this type around but getting Huntelaar for 3-4 years as the team adapts to having that type of player whilst the likes of Yesil, Morgan and Borini learn that part of their game could be invaluable.

From what Rodgers was saying he wants players you come from deep to make the most of space Suarez creates, so that rules out huntelaar.

What about him going back in for Sturridge? He seems more brendan's type of player, and can play wing forward or up top, is young, a grafter, english etc. I'd take huntelaar, but I think it's just talk from the fans living in cuckoo land, he wouldn't fit brendan's or fsg's policy, the way we play, and why would he come to a team that's not going to pay him silly money and isn't going to be back in the champs league for a year or two.
Not going to happen.

Glen: I didn't get that from Rodgers' interview. As I recall it he spoke about people "playing off" Suarez, and I don't read that as referring only to players coming up from deep positions.

Mors (are you the Aussie of Maltese descent who used to be on here years ago BTW?): I don't want Sturridge as our main striker signing. He *can* play wide but doesn't want to, and the only team where he's managed to establish himself up front has been Bolton Wanderers when he went there on loan. There'll be a reason for that. I'd be willing to look at him as an addition to an established and successful squad IF his attitude's right, but we're not in that fortunate position yet.
