Sir Alex Ferguson has escaped FA action for his Boxing Day rant at ref Mike Dean - but title rival Roberto Mancini has not been so lucky.

Manchester City boss Mancini faces a charge from Wembley chiefs after accusing whistler Kevin Friend and his colleagues of over-indulging in the turkey and minced pies.

Ferguson seemed set to face a touchline ban after losing it over Newcastle’s controversial second goal in his Manchester United side's 4-3 win.

Dean over-ruled assistant Jake Collin, saying that the own goal by Jonny Evans should stand.

Ferguson’s response was to berate Dean before the second half, and he appeared to deliver a stream of invective also at Collin and fourth official Neil Swarbrick.

But, in his official report, Dean stated Ferguson did not make any allegations of impropriety or use foul language.

Dean’s comments ended any chance of the FA taking disciplinary steps.

Mancini, furious that Friend missed what he believed was a blatant foul on Pablo Zabaleta by Craig Gardner, said: “I think maybe he ate too much at Christmas. He was not in good form.

“He and the linesman, I think, after Christmas, it can happen to have a bad performance.”
As Mancini has no previous disciplinary action for criticising officials, he is likely to face a fine or suspended ban at worst.

A charge is expected to be confirmed within the next 48 hours.

I hope they do go after Mancini, and that City's owners go after the FA in the process. It may not be Italy, but things are definitely not 'right' there.

SAF is the one that stirs all the trouble up and he must be pissing himself season after season

Sir Alex Ferguson has defended his on-field confrontation with the referee Mike Dean and launched a tirade at Newcastle United's Alan Pardew, accusing him of hypocrisy and describing him as a manager of a "wee club in the north east".
The Football Association announced on Thursday that no action will be taken against the Ferguson following Manchester United's 4-3 home win over Newcastle on Boxing Day. Ferguson was furious after Dean overruled his assistant Jake Collin to allow Newcastle's second goal to stand, approaching Dean as he made his way out for the second half, before rounding on the fourth official Neil Swarbrick and Collin.
Pardew said on Thursday that Ferguson's conduct was worthy of a dismissal, adding that Dean will have been "slightly disappointed" he did not take action at the time. On Friday, Ferguson hit back.
"Alan Pardew has come out and criticised me," he said. "He is the worst at haranguing referees. He shoves them and makes a joke of it. How he can criticise me is unbelievable. He forgets the help I gave him, by the way.
"I was demonstrative but I was not out of order. The press have had a field day. The only person they have not spoken to is Barack Obama because he is busy. It is unfortunate but I am the manager of the most famous club in the world. Not Newcastle, a wee club in the north east.
"I was demonstrative. I am always demonstrative. Everyone knows that. I am an emotional guy. But I was not abusive. I shouted Mike over. We walked towards each other. I was only on [the pitch] three or four yards. That has been overplayed. The problem for me is that the profile of this club is huge."
Pardew was given a two-match touchline ban and fined £20,000 after accepting an FA charge of improper conduct for pushing an assistant referee earlier this season. He was sent off during the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on 18 August when he pushed Peter Kirkup after claiming the ball had gone out of play during a Tottenham attack.
Meanwhile, Ferguson could hand Shinji Kagawa a place on the substitutes' bench for Saturday's visit of West Bromwich Albion. The Japan international has been absent since injuring his knee in October but managed a solo training session at Old Trafford ahead of United's win over Newcastle.
"He wanted to do a warm-up on Wednesday and we will see what he is like," Ferguson said. "I could put him on the bench tomorrow. It depends on who we have available." Wayne Rooney definitely misses out with a knee injury, but Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck could be fit after missing the Boxing Day game.
Ferguson also launched a passionate defence of Ryan Giggs, who has encountered criticism for his performances this season. "How can people criticise a player like that?" the manager asked. "He has given us 20 years and has done so well. It is a problem for him because he wants to play more but at his age I cannot afford to risk that. He was amazing on Wednesday and it is simply beyond belief that anyone can criticise that."
•Yes, like the way the Mafia "helps" a bar/shop/small business owner.

He's been lauded for always being on the end of the phone for young managers, giving advice, being a friend.

Yeah, fucking right.

That was up there with his "I think he should apologise" comment over Shelvey. More fool Shelvey for doing so.

Ginsoak has a free reign off the FA to do whatever he likes and say whatever he likes, so why shouldn't he take advantage of it? I'd be coming out every week calling the refs cunts if I was in his position, knowing I was above punishment.
It's the FA at fault with him, not what he's actually doing, he's just taking advantage of it.

Just for some perspective - what manager was banned for a record five games a couple of years ago?

Ferguson. Although the five match ban included a suspended two match ban, for basically calling Alan Wiley a fat bastard, two years earlier.

There's a clue in that final sentence - "He forgets the help I give him, by the way." That so-called help is a way of extending his influence and ultimately his power.

I'm no fan of Pardew but I defo think more of him for speaking up over this. I only wish I could believe it would lead to something being done about the dreadful old scrote down the E.Lancs.Rd.

Ferguson is a machiavellian bastard, and the only way to beat him is to be an even bigger machiavellian bastard.

We don't even have the correct people running our own club let alone trying to influence other institutions and organisations.

A fekin proper chief exec would be a nice start, we can then worry about how we influence the FA, the Premier League etc

Its shocking that he's allowed to get away with the bullshit he said after the ball incident yet alone this as well, its pathetic, bent as fuck FA.

Actually this is not the FA's fault. The ref needs to mention in his match report and he hasn't.

Ergo our wrath should be vented towards him and he should be explaining himself.

I'm guessing it was down to;
"do you want to continue refereeing in the PL or in League Two? Its all down to your report...."
