OKAY... on a slightly more serious note, Højbjerg has got the potential to become real top class and because of his situation with Bayern and the ending loan deals he might even not be as expensive as one should've believed. £10M or thereabouts is my guess (and it could perhaps be even less). I believe that is bargain territory.
If everything pans out for him and he can continue his developments he'd be a Xabi Alonso-type of player with pace, dribbles and more goals.
However, he's now looking to join a club where he can become a natural first choice to really find himself as a player. Was used on and off with Schalke at the beginning of the Season and only later on claimed his place in the side. It's a very clever decision I believe, he's still very young and could use some steadiness in his career. I once wrote on here that for me a CM of Can and Højbjerg (both former Bayern-players btw) would be a bit of a pipe dream. I love them both as players and as types but maybe now is not the time for that partnership.
Højbjerg is going to be leader for a team one day, at 17-18-years-old he was already a pivotal, influential figure in the Danish U21 setup. He's also a clever kid, very honest both on and off the pitch and then he's half French (Deschamps tried to tie him up for Les Bleus when he was around 18 but he chose Denmark where he was born).
Bottom line for me, if Klopp REALLY wants him and sees him as part of his immediate plans we should buy him. Not as a backup for the future, that would probably harm both us and the players developments.
Do I think he'd be good enough to be a pivotal part of a team going to compete for the Premiership from the off? I guess I do, mostly because of his determination and mental strength. One thing is all the talent but it often comes down to mental factors (see Lazar) if they can make the step. He's got that part right I believe.
Dammit I am so excited now. Thanks
@Holle 🙂
