Apols if it's posted elsewhere:

Roy Hodgson believes his three signings of the summer so far prove Liverpool have 'serious intentions' for the coming season - and confirmed he is confident of further bolstering the squad ahead of the start of 2010-11.

The Liverpool boss admits he is delighted with the acquisitions of Joe Cole, Milan Jovanovic and Danny Wilson - who were unveiled to the media at Anfield today - and is certain the trio will have pivotal roles to play as he aims to make a successful start to his tenure.

However, Hodgson is optimistic there will be more additions to the Reds' playing staff in the next few weeks.

"I am very excited and happy for the club that we have been able to sign three players of this quality," he told an Anfield press conference.

"It was important we made some signings early on and made clear to everyone that our intentions are very serious. I think it is clear from the players alongside me we are serious and we have been fortunate enough to acquire their services."

He added: "We're still interested in some other players. I hope this won't be the last of our signings. The aim of the club - the aim of the board, Christian Purslow and everyone at the club - is to try and make this squad as competitive as possible."

The quality of Liverpool's summer transfer business has heightened optimism on Merseyside - and as Hodgson prepares to kick-off his debut term in the Anfield hot seat, he admits he is well aware of the expectation levels at a club like the Reds.

Nonetheless, the gaffer is confident players of Cole, Jovanovic and Wilson's quality can help realise those hopes.

"We haven't signed the players to put out any statements - we've signed them because we want to be a better, stronger squad and we think these players can help us become that," said the 62-year-old.

"In football you put pressure on yourself and when you work at a top club, the pressure is obviously great. But it doesn't matter what club you work at in the Premier League, the players and manager at that club will be under pressure to do well.

"We know we are under pressure to do well and we're answering the questions as carefully as we can, but we're also very realistic and know there is a big job to do.

"Rome was not built in a day, we've got that in mind, but the important thing for the fans to know is that we will be working towards the targets they have set for the club. That is what we should be doing and these three guys will certainly help in that respect."

He continued: "If we can sign several more to make the squad even stronger then that will also help further.

"It's important we make the point it is a new start. It's something of a new dawn when a new manager and players come to a club and you don't put to right things that have gone wrong overnight. You have to work at that and that's what our job will be."

That's assuming we don't offload a few others too (Lucas, Aqualani, Kuyt, Cavalieri, Kyrgiakos, N'Gog, Babel).

All the right noises.

So what have we got left.
We need 25 for the squad right?

Reina
Cavalieri
Gulacsi
Johnson
Skrtel
Agger
Carragher
Wilson
The Greek
Lucas
Aquilani
Cole
Babel
Shelvey
Gerrard
Maxi
Kuyt
Jovanovic
N'gog
Torres

Thats 20 so far (ive left Mascherano, Insua and Degen out given we KNOW they are leaving). Lets assume that Pacheco and Kelly or any TWO youths step up the the first team.
Thats 22 meaning we have just 3 more spaces for the first team squad for the rest of the season.
So LB and DM you would have to assume as the first two places filled, then you would have to hope that if the money is invested we go for a centre forward.
So including insua and mascherano we are looking at having made maybe 40m total. So if we invest 25 in the first team could we get those three players we need?
LB - Figueroa - 5m?
DM - Defour/Poulsen/Cambiasso/Parker - 10-12m?
CF - Anyone we could get for about 10m?

Its a limit of 25 senior players, but can add Unlimited under 21's, can still have a mad squad of 60 players if your Man Citeh, and 35 of them are under 21's
Oh right so effectively we can have Pacheco and Kelly outside of the squad?
So we could sign 5 more players if needs be?
I doubt we will like but still..

Hodgson said several though, and we must have some money availeble.

If we get to spend every dime from the Mascher transfer then we could see maybe 3-4 new faces.

I really dislike our home shirt.
Yeah its shite. I think our best one of late is probably the one we won the champions league in. None of this shiny shit.

Am I the only one who's fed up with the tail (clothing firms) wagging the dog (football clubs)? I know it's how the world operates - I just wish we had more say in what their design departments make our players wear.

Antonio Lopez
Esteban Cambiasso
Diego Forlan

Job done.
Think big Diego might be a bit too much for us

Figeroa
Defour/banega
Gomis (if cost effective)/ martins (awaits backlash)/ kißling (if affordable)/ remy (if he's not a cunt)

Ha. You know we're not signing Forlan after the World Cup he just had.

Sounds like Figueroa is nailed on so I'm fine with that...
Cattermole would likely be my choice in midfield...
I would take Bellamy on the cheap if City would do business with us, and I'd take Huntelaar if it meant getting rid of Babel.

I wish there had been some truth to the Kiessling rumours...
It cant be surely.

It's Stuart James from the Guardian that's reporting it, don't know of him myself...?
I dont mean we 'cant' be signing him of course. A premiership steady eddie who can play in both full back positions and adds to our homegrown quota fine. But not to start. Surely hes Aurelios replacement and not Insuas.

I guess if you put it like that it doesnt sound so bad, Bwendas gonna have a field day with this until we do sign a 1st choice left back though!!
I think a few will get hysterical. To be fair if he is our first choice LB i will myself.
But i think it will be
Figueroa - Johnson
Kelly/Young - Young/Agger
Thats ok for me.
