Why do you suppose strikers (with the exception of strikers who take penalties) almost always avoid taking penalties in shoot outs?
Ive often wondered it. They normally quick sharp get their trackies on and leave the likes of Carra, Batty, Southgate, Ramos etc to take the flak.

What gives?

I know alot of strikers who don't like taking penalties. The usual reason is that they have too much time to think, whereas a striker generally goes off instinct and that split second decision. It's usually set piece takers I guess who are better at it.

Quite, I wouldn't take penalties if I was a professional footballer, too much time to think, too much pressure, they're lose lose really.

Head down, pick a corner, don't show keeper where you are looking. Never fails at amateur level. 🙂

I love taking penalties. I know its not in front of 80000 people but id always want to take one and would back myself.
Livvy it looked to me like Khedira was next in line.

Anyway, im not really blasting Higuain as its been loads of strikers over the years. Seems strange that they dont back themselves enough that they would trust a Ramos or a Southgate to get them theough a crucial tie!! Id want it in my own hands thank you very much.

i fucking love a peno shoot out .Ok it can have a negative effect on a game when teams get cagey and start playing for them like lastnight but all in all the excitement and nerves are brilliant. They bring the best down to their knees and ruin legacies but can make heros from average players who dare .

i've been lucky enough to win all the peno shoot outs i've been involved in. And even at that nothing level the buzz from scoring your's is brilliant . During one semi final shoot out i had a proper stuart pearce moment when i scored and had to be pulled away from the other team . And i'm about as hard as elton john watching a lesbo porno but that's what scoring a shoot out pen can do .

Shithousery. There's no excuse for it, pick a spot - shoot.
It is isnt it?
Its like knowing you can do something really well and someone saying you can go to the final of doing that thing if you just do it once more, and you saying 'Naaah get my mate to do it' knowing that he isnt very good at doing it, just so that if it doesnt work he gets the blame and not you.
Its chickenshit really.
I would want to do everything I could to get myself there.

Yes I agree.

Imagine if in F1 at the end of the season two drivers were on equal points & they decided to have a single fastest lap and Lewis Hamilton lets the guy who holds the brake sign up to drive it for him.

I've taken 2 penalties in penalty shoot outs, scored both thankfully, but I'll never take another one. The last one I took I was aiming for the bottom right corner, keeper went the right way, but I slipped and hit the ball into the ground and the ball bobbled over him. If I'd have hit it properly he'd have saved it. Needless to say I'm a defender.

Never again.

I bet none of the Germans refused to step up last night.
Any player that refuses to take a penalty should give back their salary.

The only way i'd take one is if they allowed me to neck a few vodka and redbulls before hand.

Even then i'm still not sure my legs would get me to the penalty spot

I'm a striker and I've never scored a penalty. I've missed 3 in my time. I wouldn't take another one as I know I'm not very good at them.

Doesn't make me a shithouse.

Suppose it does make me a shit striker though.

I was a striker, back in the day, and took them for almost every team I played for. I missed plenty, no more than maybe 15, but scored at least treble that. If you don't buy a ticket, you can't win the lottery. The glory of scoring a winning one in a shootout is like discovering your first pube...... Now strut!

Played for saturday sunday teams, not to mention school shit. Plus we had some terrible referees too, one was nearly 70 with the thickest frames you have ever seen!!
