Hierarchies of racism

Apropos of the Nigel Farage "Chinky" fiasco, it got me wondering - there exist hierarchies of racism:

  • "Nigger" is definitely a no-no, so much so that even when discussing it, it is normally truncated to "N-word"
  • "Paki" is frowned upon by most, but still used a lot
  • "Chinky" is apparent;y up for debate
So why?

All 3 are recognised racial slurs, so why does the hierarchy exist?
