You have a good chance...

for that very reason i am very much looking forward to wupping your yank ass.

We have a good shot at getting through the group for sure.

I'd say if we don;t make the knockout stages,we don't deserve to be in the competition.

Sounds familiar.

Anyone know much about Slovenia, I know they beat Russia and looked a pretty good team but other than that I haven't really seen them play.

Americans must be pleased with their draw... they'll lose to England but should have no problem progressing in second spot.

Looks like Bob Bradley is calling on the memories of the historic 1950 world cup result to motivate the team. Too bad nobody on the team knows what he is talking about.

I hope they both go through, but if it comes down to it, fuck the US. There are many football fans in the US, but there are far more who take every opportunity to heap derision on the sport. I don't think world cup success for the US actually increases interest massively, and many of those who would gloat the most are those who watch a world cup final every four years.

World Cup success wouldn't increase interest really, but a good result against England would. Any interest that is generated for whatever reason would be short lived though.

Haha. You don't know about the winter world cup?

There was a little interest in 1994 tho; they did quite well which must have helped.

The 3-2 win over Portugal was a highlight.

Obviously I do, we're playing well and should have won the group ahead of Slovakia if it wasn't for a few shitty results (like the defeat against Northern Ireland) early on, when the team and the new manager haven't clicked yet. After that we've played quite well, the keys are teamwork and workrate as we don't really have any individual matchwinners.
The defense has been solid in the qualification group but looked shaky lately, the CBs are Cesar (former Marseille and WBA, now with some shitty Ligue 1 team, a good header of the ball) and Suler (Gent, Belgium, he's the ballplaying CB), Jokic (LB, Sochaux) reminds me of Insua a lot, Brecko (RB, Köln) has been one of our better players and made Arshavin look like Russia's worst player. The Udinese keeper Handanovic is our best player, he has been outstanding every time I've seen him play and he's relatively young (25) so I guess he'll move to a bigger club provided he plays well at WC.
The captain and playmaker Koren is another one of our better players, he has comfortably played in the Premiership last year and I expected him to move to some lower table side in the summer rather than continue playing for WBA. Radosavljevic (plays for some mid-table Russian club) is a tidy veteran DM, he was recalled to the national team by Kek after a few years and it has surprisingly worked well, the LW Kirm (Wisla Krakow) is probably our worst player, he's like a very poor man's Dirk Kuyt without the goals. Birsa (striker turned winger, Auxerre) is a talented player with a good left foot, but goes missing in games despite working hard. Still, he's our best crosser of the ball and is most likely to create something out of nothing.
Novakovic is our best goalscorer, has a great record for Köln (a goal in every 2 games or something) and the fans there love him, however I've never been really impressed with him. He wastes a lot of chances, but still manages to score constantly even when playing like shit. The other striker, Dedic (Bochum), doesn't score many but works very hard and occasionally shows a bit of skill, people don't seem to rate him at all though. He usually gets subbed around 65' for Ljubijankic (Gent), who's been fucking shit almost every single time I've seen him play.
The other notable players are Krhin (19, CM/DM playmaker), he broke into Inter's first team and got called up for the national team this season, is usually getting substitute appearances for Inter and Slovenia and is rated by Mourinho as the most promising of their youngsters and Pecnik (attacker, plays in Portugal), who has scored the important away goal against Russia. I haven't seen a lot of him but looks like a much better option for LW than Kirm (which isn't hard really).

All in all, the team is average but the manager has them playing some good football. We've actually played England (at full-strength, but still a friendly) a few months ago and lost 1-2 for a non-existent penalty. Goals here.
