He had so much potential

Never understood how it didn't work for him. Attitude maybe? Didn't have that all encompassing will to work hard?

Shame anyway

When he first joined I thought he was hoping to be a superstar. Not sure why it never happened for him, always remember screaming at the TV as he raced away from the last defender to score his goal against Arsenal in the 90th min of the CL quarter final

He had everything to become a top class player, physique, technique, shooting etc. He just didn't have the right mentality.

He is definately in the form of his life. Good for him. He, just as Baros, had the attributes to be delivering on the highest stage. Happy for him.

i dont think he had the attributes at all. he couldnt play out situations in his head and make the correct decisions just leaving everyone frustrated. you cant teach that.

I was dead excited when we signed him. He was ripping it up for Ajax and Holland under age. Arsenal were linked and there was talk of him being the next Henry.

I'm not sure about the mentality thing. I never heard bad reports about him being a poor trainer, and I never saw him sulking on the pitch or not giving effort. He had a good mentality for me. He just never had the God-given skill and game intelligence to make the most of his fantastic physical attributes.

I feel that way about origi as well.

Can see it's all there.... He's just fucking thick

I bought him on pro...5 maybe? Before we bought him. And he was fire. I was so fucking excited when we bought him, as the hype matched my pro evolution experience

I bet he signs off with Stan Collymore - once the most expensive player in England. He had potential and never fulfilled it.

Like? Trophies? Playing for his national team? What?

Being a potent striker (41 goals in 65 for Forrest)

Moving to a big club and being a main stay in the side which he was at Liverpool scoring 1 in 2.

Babel has never really succeeded at a big club has he?

Collymore didn’t stay at the top, Babel hasn’t got there

Attitude.

Physical talent can mask all sorts of technical deficiencies at underage level. There's no incentive for him to develop skills and abilities when it's all so easy at an early age.

When you reach the Premier League and your physical advantage is minimised, whether you succeed is determined by the rest of your game. Babel never developed the rest of his game.

Happens all the time - Micah Richards is another example.

The top? He managed 3 international appearances.

So? He formed one of the most exciting and prolific attacking partnerships of the premiership era. Babel never came close.
Like Dreamy said Collymore reached the top, but then faltered. Babel never did.
Caps don't determine that imo. LeTissier barely got capped, would you call him a failure?

He didn’t win anything did he? Or Le Tiss.

Shearer won fuck all but he achieved more than those due to the sheer volume of goals. He reached his potential.

Neither Babel nor Collymore did. Collymore could’ve been one of the greats. He had it all in terms of talent.

Neither reached their potential that I agree with. My issue is the comparison between the two. All I'm saying is that Collymore was a whole lot closer to reaching his potential than Babel was.

Why is Collymore’s performances being judged on trophies won by his sides? That’s bollocks.
He was on another level for us compared to Ryan B.
