The wee green dots on players shirts have been a fact we've seen repeatedly here and there over the last five (ten?) years but tonight's ridiculous scenes in the Senegal/Egypt game have surely got to bring this to a head.

It needs to be made a civil offence to point a laser light at a professional sportsperson. No? This surely goes beyond football

I know different sports have very different etiquettes; a sneeze at a snooker tournament gets you ejected! Tennis requires not a sound whilst serving and Cricket requires no-one at both ends of the ground to move during bowling. However, football fans harangue, chant and gesticulate without any control. So does that make it ok to shine laser pointers at the players?

You need to post that scene as Mo was preparing to take his penalty vs Senegal.

I'm not sure what the referee could have done - other than stop the shootout and make an empty threat via an announcement. Because to abandon the shootout or say empty the stadium first - would have caused a riot. Maybe state that any lasers on any player's face/body and he will have the right to retake the penalty if he misses or it's saved.

It was ridiculous,any time I've seen them used previously it was just one person acting like a twat but there were at least 5 or 6 shining directly into Mos face as he lined up the kick. I'd assume FIFA will have to take some sort of action because if this goes unpunished you can be 100% it will be repeated in the future

I thought it should have been stopped until the lasers were put away personally. Get the other linesman to watch and if any lasers pointed at the taker or keeper. A retake should have been ordered.

That would stop it somewhat. Probably not completely as there will always be that one twat.

It's not. I saw the game live.
The Egypt players were followed by laser pointers during the entire game.
And no it wasn't 6, it was at least 10-20 dots following them. Some had better aim than others.

It's nothing new and it won't be a problem in Europe. They'd probably be thrown out and banned, but it's near impossible to enforce in Africa.
The Senegal players are probably appalled.

Were definitely 20 or 30 plus doing it from all over the ground as both mo and the Egyptian keeper are getting hit straight on in the face and they are facing opposite directions

Nah, I watched both games and Egypt is like Greece 2006, they play destructive boring football.
Last night they basically played with 8 defenders and 2 strikers.
I have zero sympathy for them.

It could be PS but could also just be either a) a composite of a few shots (e.g. say 10 frames per second and composited) or b) a longer exposure - say ¼ sec. But yeah the video was very bad but nothing like that.
