How does that sit with some here??? It his ambition..

[article]Socceroo great Harry Kewell has revealed his coaching aspirations, and his mind is set on former club, Liverpool FC.

In Melbourne on Tuesday to receive Professional Footballers Australia's highest honour -- the Alex Tobin Medal for outstanding contribution to the sport -- Kewell said he'd like to coach where no Australian manager has been before.

"My ultimate goal is Liverpool," said the precociously talented winger, who played in the English Premier League and World Cup during an incredible but injury-blighted career.

But the path that Kewell will take as he attempts to get there is anyone's guess.

The 38-year-old is presently Watford's under 23 coach, and has previously given half-hearted interest in an A-League coaching gig.

"You've got to learn your trade," he said, before comparing the coaching pathway to his own playing route.

"When you're starting out do you start out working your way through the reserve team, go out on loan and start at a lower level?

"Or do you just get thrown into the deep end and play in the premiership?

"You don't know unless you get thrown in there. I'm a big believer in sink or swim."

"I'm a big dreamer. You might as well go to the top. You want to dream big, you dream big."

Craig Burley goes through the litany of problems facing Liverpool in their defence.

On his whistle-stop visit back to Melbourne, Kewell revealed he sought out "phenomenal" Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy and spent the afternoon with him, picking his brain.

But it seems Kewell is unlikely to find himself coaching in Australia any time soon.

He distanced himself from opportunities at expansion A-League clubs, likely to enter the league in 2018-19, or other opportunities in Australia.

He's more concerned that the standard of the league is maintained after coming on in great strides.

"I think [expansion] is fantastic. As long as you've got players," he said.

"At the moment you've got a good league happening. It's interesting now. I watch it every weekend. That's what you want.

"You don't want to create an extra two teams and they become weak links because they're just filling numbers.

"The next ones that come in, they'll take from Melbourne Heart and take what's from Western Sydney [Wanderers] and I presume they'd learn from both of them and hopefully then the next [team] can have a bit more of an impact again.

"As far as me, I don't know.

"I just worry about my coaching. I'll just keep working and working until I get my opportunity."[/article]

He was a disappointment. He cost us that CL game in Athens with his "not arsed-ness".

His commitment to the club was always luke warm - he was super self centered - look at how he treated Leeds, coming to us. Or Then going to Gala.

Harry Me indeed - we can do better.

Considering all the times he was injured, if he had been studying the game in those periods then it's a massive head start over other players his age. It could be close to a decade of learning he has done.

How did he cost us the game in Athens? He only played 30 minutes and we were already 1-0 down. And he was coming back from yet another long-term injury.

His reputation is unfairly marred by those injuries. I remember being embarrassed when some fans booed him off in Istanbul too. Despite being injured.

People tend to forget that Kewell did have some great games for us. He was very, very unlucky with injuries which meant that he couldn't live up to expectations (which were massive, in fairness).

I know there is a perception that he didn't care or was faking it or whatever, but Benitez kept putting him back in the side when he could, even for big games. Benitez doesn't exactly strike me as a manager who would put up with a player who was taking the piss and wasn't putting the effort in. .

Second goal, left hand side, touching his shin guard, not tracking back, leaves man unmarked in ACRES of space, man goes forward since he's not marked, and makes the simplest of passes (since he's not being marked by Kewell) to Inzaghi who scored. A disciplined player, who gave a crap, would have been covering. You can't leave players like Kaka unmarked like that. Unforgiveable because he wasn't bothered.

I don't agree with the booing, etc in Istanbul, but it plays into people's sense (illogically) that he didn't really give a crap.

No bother with me. He's always spoken highly of the club even if he was fucking shit while he was here. How he started that CL final still baffles me. I clearly need to move on.

I think you need the Hair Dryer for how accepting you are of him. Think Keano, think high standards. Yeah I maybe need to move on too 🙂

Blimey, mate, that's harsh. He left Leeds for a team he really liked, and left when he was surplus to requirements. He's hardly done a Raheem.

he shafted them *in the way* he came to us, like Owen did going to RM, but yeah I am harsh in all things Kewell. I'll stand down - yer right!

He was a disappointment but I always thought the stick he got for his attitude was unfair.

We'll be having the same debate about Sturridge in five years.

He signed when I was in a 'giddy teenager' phase of being an LFC fan and I was super super excited. I always seem to remember there were a couple of games in a row where we scored 3 goals and in each of them Owen got 2 and Kewell got 1.

He was extrememly talented but sometimes came across as a bit lazy, although I kinda think some of that is because he was surrounded by players who were all about running, without applying some brain like Cisse and Baros.

Such a shame, as he seemed to completely lose his speed after his first injury at Liverpool.
When he arrived he had the skills (let's forget the ridiculous stepover incident), speed and class that would have made him one of the best of that era.
Instead he seemed to lose his speed and the concquently his will to improve and fight.
Ah well.

I always used to sign Mark Bresciano on Footy Manager - i remember well that he was an AM RLC which is the dream player to get hold of. Never seen him in real life though..

As you were.

Yep....who else is there?

Cahill, Jedinak?,........Schwarzer, Bosnich.

There's hardly any!

Rogic at Celtic looks good enough to play in the Premiership.

yeah those three are A to B listers.

Bosnic and Schwarzer C listers, especially Bosnich. Cahill, Jedinak the same.
