Former Malaysia defender Singh appointed director of football at relegated Blackburn

Blackburn's Indian owners Venky's have made former Malaysia defender Shebby Singh their director of football.
One of Singh's tasks will be to act as a go-between for the Venky's and Steve Kean, although the manager's future remains uncertain after relegation from the Barclays Premier League.
Singh is unlikely to be short of things to say, having earned a reputation for his forthright views about the Premier League while working as a pundit for Asian TV.

For non-Asian posters, Shebby Singh is the most hopelessly clueless bellend on ESPN's coverage of the PL in Asia. He's an absolute and utter fuckwit.

God, I love Venky's. I've literally been rolling on the floor and laughing for the last 10 mins.

Interesting to see if/how he'll work with Kean.

Kean must go
May 9, 2012
By: Shebby Singh

Looking from a football pundit's point of view, Steve Kean is obviously not the man to lead Blackburn Rovers back to the Premiership.

There were too many areas that weren't looked into this season and we can talk about this for a long, long time.

But, just to touch on a few – firstly, they were tactically naive with a lightweight team that were too easily brushed aside at times.

Then, there were a number of players who were past their prime. If Manchester United's Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs struggle at times in midfield these days, then what more Blackburn's midfield duo of Morten Gamst Pedersen and David Dunn?

There were also players, such as Grant Hanley, a centre-back, who were played out of position, while there were a number of unhappy players at the club, such as Chris Samba.

But there's no use wallowing in self-pity and the club need to move on quickly.

More in The New Paper on Thursday (May 10).

He hates Liverpool too, the fucking cunt. Fuck, I'm glad he won't be around on ESPN anymore.

+1 to this ! Singh is totally clueless !!

For the longest time I thought he was on the ESPN panel for entertainment purposes only..

I didn't realise he was an actual footballer until much later. He always looked distinctly uncomfortable, like he had entered the wrong studio.

Gosh I wish Blackburn were still in the PL now.............

He was actually a decent defender; it's his punditry thats shit.

Plus he just grates after a while.

'Gerrard's best position would have been RB, which is where he was so incredible in Istanbul'

Macca nearly strangled him.

He's just like one of those guys in the pub / coffee shop who walk around in a jersey, loves the sound of their own voice and speaks in hyperbole to show how knowledgeable he is.

Just that those guys usually end up as perspiring journalists. They don't become pundits let alone DOFs...

Shebby Singh justifies himself today:

You made a comment in the media very long ago, where you said that Gerrard should play Right Back. That stuck in the minds of many, who still remember it today. Would you still stand by that statement?

Yes, well, I know, it was kind of a radical statement. But at that time, if you see, Steven Gerrard was like a headless chicken in midfield, in a sense. He used to chase everything, he used to dive into tackles all over the place, and so on. He needed to be a bit more intelligent to be a better player. But he still dives into tackles and runs around too much.

Also, England at that time had problems with finding a good right back, and he could have been like two players in one. He would’ve been a good right back and a good right midfielder as well, because he could attack like a winger. So that would’ve given England a lot more from Gerrard. At that time it was laughable, but is it now? What has Gerrard achieved at international level? What have England achieved? So, wouldn’t Gerrard playing at right back, bombing down that flank, have been an option worth trying? That’s my opinion.

Rafa didn't think he was good enough to play CM either. Hence Alonso, Hamann, Sissoko, Lucas, Mascherano etc.

I don't like him playing him as a CM either. He is, however, without a shadow of doubt, the best third midfielder of this generation. To suggest that playing at right back might have gotten the best out of him is absolutely laughable.

Shebby singh is an idiot... I know because ive met him. Sometimes the likes of Paul Macefield felt sorry for him.... Which says everything.

A mate of mine who's set up a venture for promoting sports education in schools in India has entered into some tie-up with Blackburn for setting up a Blackburn junior league in Indian schools in which Shebby is involved. What I understand from him is that Shebby's appointment was in the works for a while. Though my mate is an idiot, and is convinced that Venky's are doing a good job, and that Shebby really knows his football, and also that Blackburn will certainly be back in the PL next season.

Masefield is awful, but is miles better than Shebby, which really says everything you need to know about him. Having said that, I must say, almost everyone on ESPN pundit team is bad to awful. Including McMahon at times. The only decent ones they've ever had were John Dykes and Jamie Reeves. Shebby and the Mekon-headed Paul Parker are the worst of the fucking lot though.

I still expect to wake up and find this whole nonsense at Blackburn has been a weird dream. None of it makes any sense. And what happened to Allardyce's action against Keane? I'm amazed that idiot is still in a job. (Both of them!)

Given how long Big Sams defamation suit against BBC is taking, it must be at least six years now, Kean can probably afford to relax for a while

🙄

Blackburn manager Steve Kean has been assured his job is safe despite the club's relegation.

Rovers' new director of football Shebby Singh insists the Scot will remain in charge at Ewood Park and will be provided with funds to bring in new players in an attempt to make a quick return to the top flight.

Singh told Sky Sports News: "Steve has been in this sort of situation before in the Championship when he was at Fulham and he got them promoted. "

We have got to evaluate situations as they come along rather than set a certain standard and say 'you have failed to meet that'.

"While not lowering our standards we need to look at the other qualities that Steve has got. Everybody starts with a clean slate but having said that everybody is on trial. "

"I would say we have already discussed terms with a very, very important player, in terms of the characteristics that he can bring.

"We are also in talks with a couple of other players, in terms of striking positions.

As far as I am aware and as far as I know there are funds available to bring in the right sort of characters and the players with the right sort of characteristics for the team."

On Yakubu moving to China:
'My message to the Yak is you are not ready to retire to those pastures yet'

Aye he could be in the world class Championship.
