Haaland or Grealish?

I know we probably need a forward cover more than another midfielder but the one thing we are lacking (since Coutinho, peak Lallana and peak Project Restart Keita) has been a ball running midfielder.

I don't have faith in either OX or Shaq to be that ball running midfielder, they both seem to have lost a yard of pace with regard to beating a man. Minamino seems like an eternal work in progress and Keita is basically the midfield version of Sturridge, so unreliable. I like young Curtis but I don't see him as that guy we rely on to beat his man everytime he gets the ball. He has some skill but not elite level that we need.

So when all is said and done I really do think that if FSG had balls that they would sanction a move for a player like Grealish. Grealish loves to beat his man and actually has that workrate I feel that would allow him to slot in to our midfield.

Of course we also need a striker and Haaland would be awesome but for me if we could only get one player I would actually prefer Grealish, he would give our team that dynamism we lacked and gives us another attack vector.

Haaland and Mbappe are the 2 players wanted by every big club in Europe, because they are likely to dominate and win trophies for whatever teams they will end up with years to come. Grealish is simply not in this category.

BTW I think we have a young player in the squad with very similar characteristics to Grealish. I'll leave it up to everyone to guess who.

You know - If the redmen do well in the CL. I can genuinely see Mbappe arriving (at some point) - That’s the big money signing right there. Therefore I’ll go with Grealish. Why is he a cunt? Sure he fucked up during lockdown. He’s got a haircut that could be mocked. Does that make him a cunt? Harvey Elliott does too. Is he a cunt? Fact is he’s young, gifted and a leader. He showed loyalty to his club and he’s well versed in the PL. No brainier.

Put in a word for Grealish in the close season, such as it was, and was shouted down. The Ox just hasn't got back to his pre injury form and will probably go before to long. Problem is they'd be talking £80m +...I like him but not above £50m.

Obviously this was a joke BTW – Norwegians are sound.

Danish, on the other hand...
Nope, them doped up Norwegian skiing bastards can fuck off.
Fuck Kläbo and Johaug and the skiis they glid in on.

Seeing that Haaland and Mbappe are now out of our reach.... How about Andre Silva? scored as many goals as Haaland but will cost far less.

We are not signing Haaland or Mbappe, simply never going to happen for financial reasons. Grealish is an actual player we could sign so for that reason, Grealish.

I cant fo life of me guess you might be talking about. Similar characteristics in what way? I can only think you talking of Curtis, Trent, Harvey Elliot especially when you say young? I'm sorry but I don't think we have a single player who is Grealish level dribbling-wise.

Grealish has been killing it for Villa winning games for them scoring assisting and is able to do this from a central position (as well as out wide). I guess its a moot point anyways because I'm, not 100% Klopp really likes that Grealish type as he probably categorize him as a luxury player. The best we can (foolishly) hope for is that Keita, Minimino, Curtis, Elliot eventually sprout into final (dream) form

We got a similar type in Jones, who could develop further. And we got Thiago to be a playmaker.

I don't want us to sign Grealish. Wrong kind of midfielder for what we need, and would be severely overpriced.

Agree Grealish would be overpriced. But I disagree that from evidence Jones has a similar skillset to Grealish, I see him as more of a power runner, rather than a ball dribbler. As I said earlier I guess I should give this desire up because I can't see Klopp ever going for a player like Grealish anyways but I can always dream lol

Ok I could have refined the thread title a bit better by saying do we need an expert striker or an expert ball dribbling midfielder?

Salah is top scorer, Mane isn't too bad, Firmino is yeah Firmino and we have Jota. Midfielders who can beat their man with a dribble? Apart from Keita (when he's actually fit), I would say none! I know I'm flogging a dead horse but I would to see a Klopp at least have a player in reserve that can come on and give us that option. Thiago isn't that guy, Thiago is great at using his body to feints and pass but thats not dribbling...

I think we have goal scorers - what we need is someone to beat the low block bollox we have been facing, I know the argument can be made for Curtis Jones, but he is no where at the level of Grealish. For those that argue he won't fit in the system etc.. - I think that is totally wrong - he is able to work in tight spaces, gets fouled constantly because he is dangerous and can break through defensive lines on a regular basis. Not only that - he has pace, and is willing to do a lot of running and is no lazy fucker - almost a leader type for Aston Villa, plus he has a good shot on him. If he was available for a price within our budget we should sign him. If City or Man U sign him - they will always have a strong finger on the PL title.

One of the things that has always worried me about our team is that the number of passes/players involved - necessary to create a "strong" goal-scoring chance for our attack line is quite high IMO. Yes sometimes we can create great counter-attacking goals but more often we do not, and we need to unlock the full array of midfield, RB/LB into the mix to create those chances. Get Grealish and we can create these opportunities with less players involved in the build up - allowing many to cover for any counter-attack.

Yes Naby can do - but how often is he available ? Curtis for all his forward movement and play, is still a kid at this. We hope he can become like Grealish but he has a long way to go.

Coutinho. Whether you like it or not these owners simply aren’t going to splash that kind of money having got the club to the level they want. Now they will be pushing for value and hidden gems (a club that picks up badly needed CB cover on loan deals and from Preston NE is unlikely to be shopping for the worlds most coveted young talents in the next window). Coutinho is probably neither of these but he will come at a massive discount because of the money Barca still owe us for him

I'd probably prefer Grealish tbf but tough 1.

Haaland is a goal scoring machine, always in right place at the right time...hold up and link up play exceptional.

But if you've watched Villa play often enough you'll see he's always #1 in terms of chances created, shots, key passes, dribbles and probably not far off being #1
in the league in all those areas.

Grealish is a fighter runner, dribbler, passer, shooter etc.. very rare for the silky type these days so given how much Coutinho was sold for, I would say that if Vila asked for £80M - then that is not actually far of the mark in terms of what he is worth. Just adding him to our array of attackers will give us a central attacking focus that we don't have too often because Naby is never available.
