Maddening in places but you do get a behind the scenes account of who we got and who we missed during Parry's era.

To think we replaced him with Ayre... But in fairness Ayre brought in some major deals regarding sponsorship.

So far the new CEO has been spending time having bantz on Twitter. It was refreshing at first but now it seems like he's always on there!

This is a very detailed and very candid interview well worth listening to on Houllier, Rafa, DIC and many other things. His answer on why the club shop was shut the day after we won the Champions League is great, but it highlights his weaknesses at PR - it's a brilliant response, so why didn't he make it clearer at the time?

without listening , i presume this is where i heard him talking about transfers the other day..

it was harrowing stuff

Dani Alves could have signed for Liverpool before a deal was called off for financial reasons, former Anfield CEO Rick Parry has told the BBC.

Alves, who is expected to join Manchester City from Juventus over the summer, had been a target for ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez when he was still playing for Sevilla.

But Parry said a move failed to materialise because the club decided to spend the money on two players rather than one.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We had the deal -- finally, after enormous complications -- tied up for Dani Alves and then the decision was should we buy two players or should we spend all of that on a full-back?

"Alves was not the player then that he is now, but he always looked like he would be a great player.

"Would he have been a better signing than [Jermaine] Pennant and [Peter] Crouch, for example? Probably yes, but it's easy with hindsight."

Parry explained that because Liverpool did not have the same clout as a club like Chelsea in the transfer market they had been "trying to be smarter."

He added: "Looking back, if I could do anything different, it would be to focus on buying one [player] at a time rather than having to buy five or six every season."

Every fucking fan on the internet was begging him to do just that. What a fucking horrific shambles.

Peter Crouch came in 2005 and Pennant in 2006. The Alves saga was also 2006 or later. Maybe he is getting confused between Crouch and Kuyt.

So many "what ifs" and near misses.

But regardless of budget, I still can't condone the signings of Crouch and Tennants, even if both arrived for a total of £12m or whatever.

That makes it sound as though you rated Parry higher than Ayre. If so, I disagree. Parry did well in a more bureaucratic job in charge of the Premier League but was, if anything, even more misplaced than Ayre as CEO of a top football club.

Parry couldn't even sort out a decent hair weave.

Hello...Is that William Shatner?

He oversaw the Hicks and Gillett purchase of our club. That is a mistake that is difficult to overlook.

I bumped into him at the MLS cup final in 2010 I think in Toronto. He was consulting for someone. Spoke for a minute. He was an awkward type. Gave me his business card, and I emailed him. email bounced. Networking above my level fail 🙁
Ah, the fake set of business cards trick.

Or he had his email spelt wrong on his business card. That would explain a lot actually.
