It seems that Yoann Gourcuff just can't catch a break - copped abuse from the French national team not long ago, and some people at Milan are talking about him.

Here's what Paolo Maldini had to say on Yoann Gourcuff and his time at Milan.

“Gourcuff in Milan was wrong 100 per cent,†he revealed to L’Equipe. “His problem here was his behaviour. He did not show an intelligent way to manage himself. When he played here, he did not want to make himself available to the squad.

“He did not start studying Italian immediately. He did not work. He was not always on time. It happened a lot. [There are] things he cannot tell. But he knows what he did.â€

Christian Gourcuff's (Yoann's father & manager of Lorient) response:

In a lengthy interview with France Football, Christian Gourcuff believes there is "some sort of conspiracy" against his son, Yoann. After criticism from Paolo Maldini on the move to AC Milan, Christian puts (almost) everything on the table to defend him.

Christian Gourcuff has digested the burden of his son since the attack made by Maldini, in a little over a week. He said his surprise and annoyed two days after the Italian commented in L'Equipe.

There are "pretty bizarre things" he said in evoking the attacks of the former AC Milan defender on the professionalism of his son. But Tuesday in France Football, Christian goes even further. "For Maldini to speak like this, is there some sort of conspiracy?," he dares in a long interview in the form of argument.

Conspiracy, is a strong word. But Christian, visibly touched by all the criticism aimed at his son for a few months, explains . "Yoann's mind is different ... he is different. He belongs to a different culture, intellectual and other interests. Nobody likes a difference in this community (refering to the footballing community - players). And in addition, he is naturally reserved," said the technician, who lost his temper: "He generates a funny fantasy. It's like what happened with Ribery (who antagonised Yoann whilst playing for France). But it's surreal! Surreal, you hear me! It is a terrible injustice, all this gossip. I am outraged. For a father, there is nothing worse."

In his first media outlet to Canal+ to defend international midfielder, Christian Gourcuff recalled that AC Milan very much wanted to keep him in 2009, before the Bordeaux met the 15 million release clause. This time, he advances the particularity of the sanctity of the Milan locker room.

"Everything is politics in the locker room. And Ancelotti is the law of the locker room. He is a political coach. There is a terrible game of influence in Milan. This is not something I want to say too openly. There are things I know but I can not speak. But for example, Gattuso always came very hard on Yoann in training, it's his fault my son was injured and ended his season. " he says.

Above all, Christian Gourcuff dismantled one by one the arguments advanced by Maldini. Problems with speaking Italian? "He took two hours per day to learn and he spoke Italian after two months," he said beforehand. His lack of involvement in the tactical work? "This is nonsense, especially given Yoann. He is passionate about his tactics."

Gourcuff father also got infuriated with the criticisms of Maldini on the lack of professionalism and supposed delays with Yoann. "His alleged delays? He had two in two years in Milan. As he lived 50 km from Milanello, we can estimate that it can happen,". And it makes me laugh that they attack Yoann.

Since his departure, they've had Ronaldinho partying almost every day. Moreover, in Milan, there are nights of female company that make Ribery look laughable (re: Ribery's love for prostitutes).

He was alone in Milan, he had no interest in party-going at all. And they blame Yoann because he has experienced two delays? ..."The statements of Paolo Maldini in L'Equipe? You want counter witnesses? Call for Ambrosini, Costacurta and several others. I have spoken several times on the phone with Kaka, he told me only good things about Yoann. On the other hand, AC Milan was pushing him to come back in 2009."

They launch attacks three years after a player has left? Talk about bitterness.

Problems at Bordeaux? No. Problems at Lyon? No. Problems at Rennes? No.

This club speaks about behaviour and morals? Christian makes an excellent point about Ronaldinho. Clubbing, being drunk, yet Maldini doesn't open his mouth about that.

For the last year or so, no player in France has come under as much media attacks as Gourcuff. From rubbish about his sexuality, to stating he doesn't have mentality to be a professional footballer.

Even Eurosport (French TV Channel) are against Gourcuff, and constantly promote Nasri - as they do not want Gourcuff in the national side. They often call him 'Breton' in a derogitory manner, yet they never call Nasri 'Algerian'.

Maybe it's because his father was the first signatory behind forcing the French government to allow Brezhoneg (Breton language) to be taught in schools in Bretagne?

Unbelievable the treatment this guy gets.

It's odd that Malidini would speak out like this, if what his father says is true ...

Also, the part about what his father did politically seems like the reason this stuff is happening tbh.

Milan have had major problems in the past with players fucking each others wives...

He must be so wimpy and gives off an odd vibe.. werent playing bullying him for France?

Gourcuff does not go out clubbing/partying/drinking ... he's a very reserved individual who is into literature and opera/theatre... he aint your typical lad.

As for bullying while playing for France - Anelka, Evra, Ribery, Nasri were the scumbags who treated him like shit.

I just fail to get my head around the abuse he gets ... I mean, we all despise the media whores like Rooney, Ronaldo, Terry etc who seem to make the headlines for alll the wrong reasons ... but here we have a down to earth individual with real intelect - yet he gets vilified by the media.

Fair play to Gourcuff though, through this all he's maintained silence in the media - he's handled it like a man, and its a good reflection of his character.

It's odd that Malidini would speak out like this, if what his father says is true

I'm suprised myself.

Only a year and a half ago, Maldini joined Gourcuff on holiday... so him coming out and saying shit about him was just WTF

He's french, who cares?

Ps. If someone will pay me how many tens of thousands a week. I will gladly take all this "bullying" in my stride and with a big fucking grin.

I really like Gourcuff as a player.

What a stupid comment.

I'm sure some peasant in some third world country would say the same about your job / salary, yet you wouldn't tolerate any abuse at work, would you?

Especially on a scale where all the world can see the abuse being directed your way.

Questioning his sexuality? ffs, doesn't matter how much you earn but that's just disgusting and completely unwarranted.

Being abused on the team bus because you don't like shagging underage prostitutes on a night out with the lads...

Being abused by team mate (Anelka) in the national team, even though the abuser himself does not give a shit about France (re: Anelka's refusal to sing the national anthem) ... scum.

Haha!

Aww did the poor wee fella get tackled too hard in training?

Gattuso ended his season... ok things like that can happen ... but then for Maldini of all ppl to come out and have a dig at Gourcuff for that is ridiculous.

Gourcuff has never had a problem at club level - only Milan and France ... when he has to mix with players with massive egos and little education.

I'm not a fan of squads like the one that was at Real for years under Raul's and Hierro's supposed influence and the Milan of a few years ago. I just heard the other day that Milan wanted to sign Cassano in 2007 but senior players like Maldini told the club it wasn't on so the club backed down!

Let's not forget what Maldini said about his own fans, they didn't give him much of a send-off.

Well, I very much doubt the squads at Bordeaux and Lyon are filled with professors.
[/quote]

Well at least his club team mates pass him the ball - unlike Ribery & Anelka who intentionally did not pass to him at the World Cup.

He hasn't settled in at Lyon yet (injuries etc), although he should once this year is over (it's been very bad for him, in terms of problems with the French team etc).

He excelled at Bordeaux under Laurent Blanc and he's excelling with France now, also under Laurent Blanc. At Bordeaux, he tore Ligue 1 apart and the champions league, primarily because of his combination play with Chamakh.

But it's a very complicated topic to put into a one liner. Lyon is a club with different principles to Milan, where as the articles I've posted shown, it was a club of sex parties and alcoholism. The manager of Lyon, Claude Puel, is very educated, the President and Sporting director also and are very involved. It's a very cultural city and there are minimal discipline problems with the players there.
