Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere (I didnt see it following a quick scan).

For those that were at the match/ somehow were watching the players leave the pitch on tv - did anyone notice Johnson's reaction to the away fans?

Basically a few of the players were doing the normal clap-the-support-thingy, and as each departed Carra and Johnson were left clapping; Carra promptly peels off and Johnson is left on his own, at which point all remaining Liverpool supporters stop clapping, Johnson looks a bit put out, and there are a few gesticulations - Johnson seemed to get the right hump, and then made a big show of applauding the home fans at great length!

There were rumours that he was unsettled, and his agent was actively pushing for a move recently (and even Madrid were rumoured to be interested).... it would seem his relationship with the fans is at an all time low, so it's got to be a pretty short price on him leaving in the summer, right? He seems to be about to become one of those signings who "just didnt fit".

I would guess this leads to a number of "bothered - we've got Kelly" responses, but with Reina also unsettled this summer is looking like the flipping killing fields (6/7 players in?) - that surely means weve got a protracted phase of rebuilding to look forward to, by which time were probably looking at a bare minimum of another 4 players required (even if this years signings work out).

Its enough to make you feel dizzy.

would be sad if johnson left, he is one of the few genuine attacking threats we posess (which in itself is sad seeing as he is a defender).

Since he's gone to left back he's reminded me of what a good player he 'can' be, but if you'd asked me a few months ago I'd have definitely been in the 'bothered?' camp.

Is his relationship with the fans bad? I wasn't aware.

I think he's a very good player and that we should definitely keep him.

The main reason he and his price tag have been questioned as much as they have is because the rest of the team has gone to shit around him.

I want him to stay.

He was shit too Keni, some of his defending has been abysmal, at right back anyway. He looked drugged up for the first three months of the season. When the 'rest of the team' is shit, you want your so called best players to step up, not shrink into submission.

I would say his relationship with the fans is worse than any other player we currently have, including Poulsen (usually pity) and Lucas (maybe acceptance that he is what he is) - reaction to Johnson at Anfield is nearly always anti, and I dont have a season ticket so end up sitting all over the place (the reaction remains the same everywhere).

Disappointed.

I like Johnson and, while I admit his defending has been pretty suspect at times, he can be a real strength for us if we get the rest of the team sorted properly.

Oh dear.

Why would this be ?
[/quote]

Because he gives the impression of being a very good player who very often isnt bothered.

I didnt see the incident, but he got a lot of stick because he didnt make his forward runs as often as he should considering he has little else in his locker and we were 2 nil down.

One particular incident that infuriated was him standing in his half whilst Kuyt surged forwards and tried to lay one off to him; only the fucker was 30 yds behind and it went out of play.

Even I could see the look on Kuyts face.

He does that alot. He has this tendency aswell to wait for the ball to come to him when someone passes to him, rather than moving forward to give himself a chance of getting there ahead of an opposing player. He's ridiculously brainless at times, considering his attacking play can be top drawer.

In fairness I expect the way Rafa drilled the players to keep to the overall pattern, and the way Roy was beginning to make the defence play really deep and static, will be harder for some players to leave behind than it will be for others. I like Magic and hope we can keep him, but I doubt he was first in the queue when the brains were handed out.

we need to be adding to our good players not fucking them off. there are a SEA of players I would bin off before johnson.

one of the few players in the entire squad with the desire (and ability) to taken on, and beat players rather than the usual suspects who can't get rid of the ball soon enough or simply run into players in the hapless attempt to beat them.

I think he is a good player too, but you are correct, he is an unbelievable thicko.

We are talking about someone whose idea of a 'laugh' is stealing toilet seats from B&Q for fuck's sake

johnson doesn't have kenny/supervisor looking over his shoulder when he posts causing him to rush 😉

I think desire is being a bit too kind. He can do it but I wouldn't say he always shows the desire to, he certainly didn't in the latter half of last season or the first half of this. He is quality though if used correctly (and awake).

I think the natural desire is there but the instructions tell him to hold the shape of the team and keep us compact...which is fair enough.

I think players just need to be intelligent sometimes and decisive, despite instruction players still have to be intuitive and know when to go and when to hold the shape of the side. Arbeloa and Finnan both knew when to tuck inside and make that third centre back almost, and when the opportunity was there to move forward with the play.

I agree but this has to be weighed against us creating chances, after all we do want win games.

Yeah!!!!! Not supporting a player busting his balls to break forward when you are two nil down, isnt lazy, disinterested, unprofessional and plain fucking wank, its to "hold the shape of the team and keep us compact".

Fuck, and indeed, me.

I think we would need to pull of some real magic in the transfer window to get anything better than Johnson! Despite his lack of defensive ability and commitment etc he still has more ability than anyone else we have including kelly!
I would certainly be making sure that we sign 6/7 other players before we look to replace johnson.

I like Johnson. As he is the only player we have that acutally is close to a pacey attacking full back.

But, as Mark said, he's brainless at times. Lapses in concentration leads to goals against and the best example is against Arsenal at home. Were he instead of playing it long up the field, tries to win a throw in deep in our half of an Arsenal player. He misses, they take a quick throw in and it's 1-1 in the 90th min.
High wages is also a problem of course.
I'd like to keep him, but if Clarke/Kenny can't get the best out of him, then sell him.

He'll probably go to Spurs and be sensational. *sigh*

Magic is ace when on form and is under appreciated. He went through a bad patch but so has everyone else. We have players who never had a good spell that need to be sold pronto.

I certainly want him to stay. We need more quality players for the starting XI, not to mention the squad.

Selling Johnson would surely make us a selling club? Xabi, Arbeloa, Mascherano, Yossi, Torres etc. Were all first team players whose quality we could do with.
