Anyone heard anything about this?
Apparently Skysport "understands" that we are looking for right back transfer targets 'cos Glenjo could be heading to Italy.

Johnson: Linked with move

..Skysports.com understands Glen Johnson's Liverpool future is in doubt with the club looking at right-back transfer targets.

Johnson's future has been the subject of conjecture in recent weeks after Reds boss Roy Hodgson publicly stated his disappointment with the England star's form so far this term.

The former Chelsea and Portsmouth man was thought to be unhappy with Hodgson's public criticism and is considering a move away from Anfield when the transfer window reopens next month.

Juventus have been strongly linked with a move for Johnson with the Bianconeri keen to bolster their defence in January.

Former Reds boss Rafa Benitez is also thought to be keen on bringing Johnson to Inter Milan having signed the defender during his time at the helm at Anfield.

Johnson is understood to be interested in a move abroad if the club decide to listen to offers for his services in the New Year.

As a result Liverpool have been drawing up a shortlist of possible replacements for Johnson should he leave Merseyside.

Johnson had a good game against Villa, full of attacking intent. I'd hate to see him leave, especially if it meant replacing him with Rod fucking Fanni.

Do they really think he's the man for bolstering their defence?...

Bollocks. Benitez has been linked with most of the team in one way or another.

My Spurs-connected mate reckons 'Arry has enquired about Glenjo and not been too discouraged by our response.

I thought he was winding me up (he's in Antigua at the moment) but maybe not?

He's a very good player, but he's by no means untouchable, and I don't believe he's offering the consistency required in a player when you part with £18M.

I rated him and wanted him here for a long time, but the price - Crouch deal or not - and his wages were always difficult to stomach. Now he's here I'm surprised how ambivalent I am about the prospect of him leaving. I guess it's partly because Kelly has come in and proven himself a better defender. Are we really going to be weaker should we sell Johnson for between eighteen and twenty million, play Kelly there, and reinvest elsewhere in the squad? I don't think so...

Spurs bent us over with robbie keane so hopefully we get even if we do sell to spurs.

Standard practice for them to whack 25% of original value on top when selling average prem players

I'd hate to sell him to Spurs. I'd feel sick watching Bale fly down one wing and Johnson doing similar on the right hand side. His performance against Villa was encouraging. He pisses me off with his self indulgent defending at times but he is a wonderful player going forward.

Carragher have some time off now so he can coach Glen on the defensive side of things 😉

Didn't Brendan allude to rumours of a gaging order being sought at one stage by Glen to keep his name out of the papers?

Was that Johnson? Would explain the dip in form.

I'm pretty sure you can't get into the England squad without one these days

It's more likely to have been his recent injury problems.

Fair play to Roy, his public dressing down of Johnson seems to have worked a treat. The man seems to playing back somewhere near where we know he can now.
Good stuff. I can forgive the odd defensive lapse when he's up there cracking shots in on goal.

Indeed so, I can forgive him his averageness (is that a word?) as a defender as long as he gets it right going forward

regards

Yeah it might work so well that he may leave in Jan, rather not see him go as he does have real talent but would still like to see him tried at RM for a few games at least. He does seem to be able to beat his man pretty easily.

I'd like Magic to stay but part of me also wouldn't mind if we sold him. He'd fetch a nice transfer fee and Kelly would get a lot more playing time.

But Kelly is not a RB, he just doesn't have the qualities of a RB, Kelly is a CB.

But he's not going to be played as CB for a while I feel. Besides a full back position is a good place to learn for a young lad. Mistakes aren't often as costly as at CB so there's a bit less pressure there.

He's a better RB than Carra ever was. Pretty good going forward, quite pacy, and crosses well. What qualities does he lack?

There are good points to both views though; Kelly is going to get good exposure at RB and be cover for Johnson, or at worst case even a replacement.

His long term future is at CB though; and we should perhaps be looking at filling the positions with the best available players at any point in time.

Liverpool has been bled almost to death by the 'can do a job' player playing everywhere.

Its LFC selling a player, he wouldn't.

I don't think he is that good going forward, he's crossing so far doesn't seem to be of a standard required of a RB and seems to get beaten for pace a couple of times I seen him but maybe he needs to settle. He reminds me a lot of Carra in the sense that I think against a big team like Chelsea he seems to do well with defensive duties in mind but when the team is lesser and he is required to contribute to a lot more to attack, he doesn't seem to be able to do that. Not saying he won't but personally I don't think he is suited to the role.
