An apology.

I've made numerous snide remarks about our buying an £18m right back and about his defensive abilities. Even though its 3 games in, I'm happy to admit that I've been wrong so far.

Sorry Glen, keep proving me wrong - you'll be in the illustrious company of Sami Hyypia and Fernando Torres if you do ;D

I thought he was a bit greedy last night in attack. There seemed to be numerous occasions when he could of passed to Dirk and didn't.

Gerrard's still our best RB 😉

Considering that most of what Dirk did last night was shite, I'd say that's a plus in his decision making.

Leaving the fee aside, I've been well impressed with Johnson so far (never saw him much for pompey, and he always looked raw prior to that). Hes clearly a very talented footballer who could probably slot into most positions and do pretty well I didn't expect his passing and vision to be as good as they are, for sure.

I think he's a great signing, though I'd probably have kept hold of arbeloa if possible to allow us to play johnson further forward if needed. Kuyt looks well off form at the moment and it would have been a good option.

He looks excellent at beating opponents in one on one situations, though i did notice he tried it a few times last night in defensive positions - needs to sort that out and keep it simple and he could be a really great fullback

I like the way he (usually) looks as if he's having a blast out there. He really does seem to have wanted to come to us.

I also like the way he "sorts" out other players who trying it on. He nobbled a Villa player yesterday and just got up and walked off. Didn't have him down as a hard man.

You just don't want it to come predictable that he's not going to pass. You still want him mixing his play up.

I think the biggest compliment of his ability and the fear that opposition managers have about what he brings to us, was shown the other night when O'Neill had quite clearly instructed Ashley Young not to leave his side for 90 minutes.

Every single time we got the ball, Young went straight to Glenjo and stuck to him like a leech. Even if the option to get the ball to Glenjo was one, 99% of the time he had to pass it back inside cos of his lack of room to do anything.

Teams will stunt Glenjo's thrust down the right. It took most sides half a season to work out how to qwell Bosingwa last year, it's only taken them 3 games to cotton onto Glenjo this year.

If they want to pay particular attention to his threat, we've already got an advantage, whether or not he is able to be effective individually. If they end up man marking as you are describing, it is a failing of the rest of the team if we can't capitalise. If you give the ball away all the time, to a team that is fast on the counter, and you don't have any fast tempo passing, you aren't exactly pressing this advantage.

We've not seen him have to do any proper defending yet against a tricky LW'r, but so far he's been excellent in every game, and is very tidy going forward.

£139,000 a week for wages. A bit steep. But, yes, he's a great addition. It's just so good to see someone head either towards the touchline or into the penalty area at pace.

Yup, a point I forgot to make.

It's up to the rest of the side to create openings elsewhere. I absolutely fucking guarantee that at some stage of the next few weeks and months, people on here will start chirping about how "Glenjo's dropped his level... He started off like a house on fire... playing shit now... blah blah blah" just like they do with Bosingwa.

Bosingwa's the same player now as he was when they first introduced him at Chelsea, and he took the fucking piss down that right side. Team eventually work out how to stop the influence and threat. In Glenjo's case, they're already onto it. Not his fault, but mark my words - the forum will be compalining about how he's "offering us nothing" before long.

Yes, i just read this shite somewhere else, is this true?

I don't believe it in the slightest. Not until I see a scan of his payslip a-la Riise

you could be right Ryan, but as said above if his threat is nullified, the opposing team aren't paying full attention to other threats, but people may well choose to ignore this.

Good player, as anticipated.

By the way, Johnson 139k a week, Mascherano 20k a week. Yeah right, pull the other one. Both way off I would imagine. If we had 18M and 139k a week to spend then Johnson, good as he is, wouldn't have been in the reckoning.

I imagine he's on a good one, fair enough, but half of 139k or so.
