Gl Jo fault?

The goal scored against England was Glen Jo's fault? Almost all papers blamed Glen Jo.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/international/article6823942.ece

Matjaz Kek, the Slovenia coach, said after an honourable 2-1 defeat: “We had watched videos of England and I noticed that, when a player has as much emphasis on attack as Johnson, there is space behind him. We were successful in exploiting that.â€

Albeit without scoring until Nejc Pecnik turned Johnson inside out and crossed for Zlatan Ljubijankic, loosely marked by Joleon Lescott, to head in at the near post.

He was turned by their player who managed to cross for the goal.

I would not attach all blame on Glen, but Lescott has a share in it surely.

Typical English media.

Even when the side is performing well, they still find reasons to bash their players.

Rooney dived yet more emphasis is on Johnson being at fault for Slovenia's goal?

Oh dear. :🙂

He stayed on for 90 minutes and I thought he did well especially going forward. The other team played some lovely one touch footy coming at England on the counter. They did concentrate on Gln jo's side. That means the two centrebacks (Terry? & Lescott) and right midfielders (SWP, AL) did not do too much to cover either. But he was singled out! What bollocks.

if we had a more defensive minded fullback or indeed a more capable full back than degen to cover johnston i would be tempted to play johnston right midfield in a similar way to how we were solid at the back playing two fullbacks on the left in past years, especially in european games.

in any case i wouldn't worry about the english media as they're clearly struggling to write about anything now that there is a competent manager in charge. johnston is a excellent full back and with more experience his decision making will get even better

It's Johnson. Glen Johnson.

It never ceases to amaze me our own fans don't know the names of our players.

The picture they used on ITV whenever it went to the adverts said it all. Cashley, Terry, Lampard and Rooney. Are there only two clubs in England?

it's a pity those two clubs don't make up the entire team giving johonson and gerrard the week off in international week.

Yes, but this was rage.

Johnson has been our best player so far this season, but it will be interesting to see how he does when he has to do a bit of defending in one of our big games.

He's a massive help to our attack though.

And i suppose you were one of the morons moaning at Rafa for being to conservative when he played Riise and Finnan as wingers too.

play johnson at right midfield he farrrr too attacking to be a fullback...

zzzzzzzzz...

in case it's escaped anyones attention we play with two center backs and two holding midfielders.

He strikes as more of a right midfielder i agree, but would rather him at full back doing the old overlap work he has done so well so far. The CB's and right midfielder's need to realise whether for us or for england need to realise that they are responsible for covering if he has made a forward run, Johnson needs to also realise he needs to haul ass back to position, something does tend to when out of position, but he is only human and can only cover so much ground to get back to position when caught on the break.

As far as England is concerned, I'd imagine Capello will be much angrier with Wright-Phillips and (to a lesser extent) Lennon for leaving Johnson isolated. Neither had much sense of how to work with an attacking full back, unlike the players on the other wing, so I doubt Brown or any other right back would have looked much better in that position. It's a right-sided problem, not just a right back problem. That's also an issue we have to deal with - if we want an attacking right back we need to have Kuyt or someone working hard to support him. Some of the reporters seem to think Johnson should be covering the space he himself vacates - it doesn't really make sense.

The contemporary idea of the wing back IS a hybrid, so when people say 'he looks more like a midfielder' they're missing the point. Nicol used to be accused/praised of the same thing before the new role was really defined. If people want a right back who looks like a defensive right back they may as well call for Carra to go back there, and so we go full circle.

Ha! I have done people's tits in here?

Grammatically wrong I know....

You guys better not read Patrick Barclay's latest column then, that guy is a right twat.
It was interesting the whole of the paper seemed to devoted to Glen's defensive mistakes.

Paddy Barclay's gone crazy. He used to be one of the most sensible columnists on football, as well as very sympathetic to LFC (he was mates with Peter Robinson), but he's now acting like a loon.

Y1 don't worry about it, it's no worse than the cringeworthy 'glenjo' I've seen on here 😱

I'll wait until the 4th vs Chelski before I decide if he can defend 🙂

As long as he scores some and assist in opening up many goals for us to win matches, his defending attribute will never be called into question by me. That would means we have to have covers for him in the midfield.

Just to make this easier i thought i'd put the video of the game in here.

[flash=200,200]http://www.youtube.com/v/ZZdf3V7Haqo&hl=en&fs=1&[/flash]

Watching the highlights I think it's fair to say, Johnson could have done a little more to stop the cross, but i think it's more credit to the wingers than incompetance from Johnson, also he was left 2 on 1 down the wing, had that not been the case it would never have happened.

Yes it did for me.

I thought it was pretty silly. Glen Johnson = GI Joe ? Retarded.

And he's supposedly 50+ of age.

Roger you need glasses or are you too vain to wear them? LOL erm... I would think if you are short sighted you would have optimaxed it rather than wear contacts.
