George Boyd spat in Joe Hart's Face

Calm down everyone, it's hardly like he made reference to his race so there's no reason to be aggravated.

I never really get the players' horror at this. It's very unpleasant, but so are lots of other things that happen on the pitch. They all spit so much it's a miracle the pitch doesn't get waterlogged, and then there's Carra and others with the snot excavations. It's amazing they don't catch each other by accident, let alone intent. Yet when one gets some phlegm on them they get far more upset than if someone elbows them in the face or stamps on their leg. They're a strange bunch.

If somebody deliberately spat in my face I would be spewing @gkmacca and I would be surprised if you weren't too.
It's a scumbags thing to do

I once played against a bloke who really was some kind of psychopath. He launched himself at the back of my legs and ruptured my achilles' tendon. If I could go back in time and get spat at instead I'd take it every time.

It's surely about perspective. I just don't get why this is considered THE worst thing that can happen on a pitch.

I'm with you on this, never really understood why everyone makes a big deal out of spitting. Don't get me wrong, it's a disgusting thing to do but I'd rather get saliva in my face than a studs-up challenge on my shin.

Actually you're not missing the point. You're arguing against an argument that isn't an argument.

Ha, that's true. Just needed to agree with Macca that isn't that big of a deal. I'm not even sure that a ban is necessary, he should just get a hefty fine and warning about future conduct.

No, you are. Players treat this as if it's the most outrageous thing they've seen. I find that weird. But you're in one of those forum-friendly thread extender moods, so I'm out.

No I'm not. No they don't. Who went mad at the Hart spitting incident? Apart from Hart no one. Who went mad at the Ramirez potential leg breaker? Loads. Have a restful night's sleep.

Who said it was the worse thing someone could do on the pitch?

It does get trotted out that its the worst or one of the worst things a player can do to a fellow player, remember last season when that Russian(?) West Brom player flobbed all over Kyle Walker, thought it was quite funny myself but were not supposed to think like that are we?

I think the FA should produce a list of Misdemeanours Based On Gravity and publish it in every match day programme so you all don't get your knickers in a twist. Hmmmm.... I'm off to the Dragon's Den with my Football Bad Things Top Trumps idea.

"Rudi Voller. Spitting. 98. Beat that Deborah you po faced witch".

"Vinnie Jones grabbing Gazza's tessies. 99. You my bitch."

"Damn you Deborah. The cards are made from recyclable gerbil though."

Here you go...

Wigan’s Paraguayan centre-half Antolin Alcaraz looks set to be handed a richly deserved three-match ban for spitting on Richard Stearman in Wolves3-1 victory at the DW Stadium on Saturday. Many have correctly decried it as the act of a fool and a coward, but some of the vitriol going Alcaraz’s way has been a little on the, ‘fresh’ side shall we say, which begs the question, is spitting on an opponent really the worst thing you can do to a fellow professional?
This is what Wolves manager Mick McCarthy had to say on the incident, among other things, of course: “Personally, I’d rather have a smack in the mouth than be spat upon. It’s the worst thing that you can do to a fellow professional.”
Wolves skipper Roger Johnson continued the tirade with: “It’s the worst thing a footballer can do to a fellow professional. It’s dirty and he deserves everything he gets. It’s there for everyone to see – he spat on him. He’ll be regretting it now and he’s got to pay the consequences.”

Theres plenty of this on the first page of google, even Ron fucking Harris says its the worst thing a player can do, LOL!

Ramirez will get a 3 game ban. This dude will get a minimum 4 game ban for abusive and/or insulting behavior. Had he spat on a black player it would of course be headline news instead of the 200 missing people on the plane.

It didn't look much of a spit to me on MOTD, more that he he shouted whilst twisting with too much gob in his mouth.

There's a difference you know!
