Apparently we're considering him since Roma won't sell Salah (link)

Liverpool have put a pin in their pursuit of Mo Salah and begun talks with Sporting Lisbon over the signing of winger Gelson Martins, Sky Sports News HQ understands.
Sky sources reported earlier this week that, despite agreeing personal terms in principle, the Reds were struggling to agree a fee for Salah with Roma, who are holding out for £35m.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has therefore begun exploring other options and turned to Martins - a 22-year-old Portugal international whom they have scouted throughout the season
Martins has a release clause is set at £46.5m but Sky Sports News HQ understands Sporting would be willing to sell him for just under £40m in the right circumstances.
And the Reds might decide Martins represents good value for money for a player whose prime years lie ahead of him.

He looks a bit shite in comparison with Salah.
 
His control isn't particularly good, his decision making isn't great and he looks much more a winger than a wide forward. Maybe that's what we want, but our chasing Salah suggests otherwise. This is a Markovic Mk II signing, and I called Markovic Mk I as a Markovic signing too.

 
With interest in Douglas Costa and a deal closeish for Salah, signing this lad would feel like a massive let down. Baah.

So we won't pay £35 million for Salah but will pay £40 million for Martins? Does SkySports actually check its stories for consistency?
 
Not impressed by this kid going by that compilation. He plays like a black version of Jesus Navas. Avoid.
 
Somebody showed something a while back to show that Portugal was the most overpriced league going in terms of value for money. We also know that our scout for Portugal/ Spain is fucking pants. This has all the makings of a shite signing. Which unfortunately means there's probably something in it.
 
I'll stand apart here and say, from the videos I have seen, that I think he looks good, and a better prospect than Salah.
 
Not wishing to deny a hasty scoff, but I watched the first 6 minutes of this link. I also watched Salah's goals and assists last year - which were generally ordinary with scrappy goals he wouldn't likely get in England.
Martins is 3 years younger and has not previously "struggled" in England.

I think you're mad. I've watched that video (the whole way through) and his control and technique is highly suspect. Salah gets 'scrappy' goals because he is always busting a gut to get behind defenders and into goalscoring positions. And as has been repeatedly stated, the 21 year old Salah 'struggled' to get into a team that De Bruyne and Lukaku also 'struggled' to get into.

As I said, this guy is a winger, but if Klopp wants to have another Mane, a wide forward, then Salah is a much closer fit. I don't see what this guy does for us.

Liverpool will launch a €50 million (£43.7m) bid for Sporting winger Gelson Martins, according to reports in Portugal.
A Bola claims that Jurgen Klopp’s side have already had an offer in the region of €40m (£35m) turned down by Sporting.

But Liverpool are going to make a renewed effort to sign the Portugal international with a bid that’s close to the 22-year-old’s €60m (£52.5m) release clause.
Last week, reports in Portugal claimed that Manchester United had entered the race to sign Martins as Jose Mourinho is also on the hunt for a new winger to bolster his squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.

Was also fucking relived we dropped interest in Van Dijk
