This could be painful.

I'd go for:

------------------- Jones -----------------

Johnson --- Skrtel --- Agger --- Enrique

------ Allen ------ Gerrard --- Shelvey

---- Suso -------------------------------- Sterling

----------------- Suarez ---------------

Wisdom needs taken out of the firing line. Shelvey's been a bit disappointing lately but i'd still put him in to add a bit of presence to the midfield. Other than that, the team picks itself.

Hope to fuck we're not gonna be disgraced.

So he is. Physioroom reckons two days. I hope he's put back in the team when he returns. He's not been himself, but having a Championship keeper keep him out of the team can't be doing much for his confidence, or his morale.

Poor little Pepe.

Maybe it's something to do with the fact this "Championship keeper" doesn't look like conceding every time the ball comes near him. Maybe he's putting in solid performances which warrant him retaining his place.

Always someone elses fault when it comes to the deluded Pepe Reina fans.
- His shit performances in the last 18 months just has to be down to him not having his old Goalkeeping coach, or it's because Rodgers way of playing(Kenny before that)doesn't suit him or it's because he's playing in front of a leaky defence.
Anything and anyone to blame but the man himself.

Way to ruin your own thread.

I imagine everyone has a tremendous amount of good will for Brad Jones and he's done ok. He certainly does not have Pepes presence in front of goal and his positioning seems a little off. The punch that led to the goal at Everton would have been bread and butter to Pepe and that changes the game. He's not perfect but I will feel a lot safer with Pepe back between the sticks.

Rumoured team was Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Allen, Gerrard, Sahin, Suso, Suarez, Sterling

I'd keep Jones in. His mistake against Everton was one in five games or whatever. Reina was making mistakes all the time.

The thing is, while Jones hasn't made any glaring errors, he's also let a few in which I don't think Pepe would have. So while Pepe may have become error prone in recent times, he'll also routinely save shots which would otherwise sail past Jones, simply because he's a far superior goalkeeper. What's more, we know what level Pepe is capable of, and it's in our best interests to get him back there. We also know that Jones will never be good enough, so humouring while Pepe's form and value go south is a bit of a risky experiment.

Pepe has made one good save this season. I really don't know what you're on about when you say he routinely saves shots. He hasn't done that for ages.

Would pepe have conceded the effort from Traore against anzhi? I think he'd stay nearer his line

After seeing suso in the middle at anzi, i want to see him play there. move gerrard right, or drop sahin and bring in ass man.

You mean he'd have been nearer to the net to get the ball back out for kick off quicker?

I understand you're frustrated with him, but that's a tad hyperbolic. I think you might be guilty of judging Pepe by his own very high standards. And while Jones has got the basics right, whenever a little bit more has been asked of him, he's been found wanting. That's not his fault - he's just not very good. Over the course of a season, he will concede more than Pepe. I just don't see the value in keeping Pepe out of the team. I would understand if we had someone of a similar calibre to replace him, but we don't. It's not just about his shot-stopping ability, it's about the command of his area, the sweeper role he plays, the quickness off his line, the distribution, the decision-making. He'll prevent as many goal-scoring chances as he saves shots, and that can't be underestimated. He's just much better, basically.

He was. But he's crap now. I'm not saying Jones is a long term solution, he isn't, but he's better than Reina.

He's been stopping shots better than Reina but his positioning is shocking & he doesn't tell the defence where to be ever.

That may sound irrelevant but if you watch our back line remain static as the ball moves (as opposed to pushing up to create offside or moving to close down a threat) in think it increases risk of conceding.

His distribution is also poor, but Reina's has been this season.

In current form (pepe before injury obv) neither are good enough imo & both have massive flaws. I'd probably stick with Jones for a few more games but if he didn't improve that distribution & positioning he'd be dropped again.

I want that al-habsi dude. I been on about him for a while but someone told me we've made an offer. Anyone else heard anything?

wow. big statement. Reina is still spanish number 2 and very good, whereas jones is a bit of a nobody, who is having the briefest of consistent runs at the very top level. it baffles me how you can, based on these handful of games, say he is better than Reina. this reminds me of the lack of love showed by some to Xabi before he went and we regretted what we let go.

Those are fundamental flaws in his game though, Jon. They're not going to suddenly improve after a brief spell in the team. Ultimately, if Pepe can't rediscover his form of old then he needs replacing, but in the meantime, we don't have anyone who can hold a flame to him.

Yeah, we're really going to miss a shit Reina. It'll be like that time I cried myself to sleep over Westerveld.
