Practice fucking corners!
Just 10 minutes at the end, just practice putting it on the near and far posts. Please. Fucking PLEASE.

A few points

1) Lucas takes poor corners, NEXT
2) Benayoun takes poor corners, NEXT
3) If we don't have a capable corner taker, put Gerrard there. Better to have a 'decent' corner without Stevie's head in the box than a 'shit' corner with Stevie roaming in the box
4) NO MORE short corners - we're terrible at them
5) Hi

agreed, i cant understand it all.
so weird, it has been an obvious weak point for years but nothing is done.

The movement and positioning in the box is more of an issue than the actual corner-taker.

corners usually don't clear the first defender making movement in the box from our players pretty much irrelavent. now macca knew how to take the perfect corner.

That simply isn't true. Last night the corners were joke, but Gerrard for all the criticism does put some great balls in and we struggle to get headers on target. Gerrard also takes corners for England at times and they often look dangerous.

Yossi takes poor corners? I was impressed with all of his efforts last night. Mind you, after watching Gerrard take them for the past few years it doesn't take much to impress.

I'm pretty sure all of Yossi's corners last night found the head of a team mate in the box.

Nah, I recall one good corner from Yossi and the rest found the first defender.

our corners consistantly don't clear the first man, if it were a case of our not getting our head on good corners then I'd blame the people in the box, it's the delivery that is the problem. I love aurelio's corners because he whips them in at pace and they are at a decent height to attack. gerrard isn't a 'bad' corner but this is definately something we can improve upon.

Gerrard seems to have a 'hit rate' of about 1:4 and that's nowhere near good enough when teams like Stoke, Villa & Spurs have constantly put our defence under pressure with consistently well taken and dangerous corners that show us what we are missing.

If anyone knows - how many goals did we score from headers following a corner last season ? I wonder what the EPL average is.

I'm going to have to watch it again. I recall him taking three: one which Gerrard headed over; one which Lucas couldn't get on target; and another that I thought was well delivered.

when macca was at the club we had the most headed goals in the league (2001) I wonder is currently we have one of the worst records in the league.

I'd put your house on it.

While I can't say I often watch other teams and think, 'Wow, their corners are fantastic!' I agree we seem depressingly inept. Kenny used to go out to collect short corners and then take the initiatve. Maybe Gerrard should do that. But the poor technique is bemusing these days when so many players are regarded as technically gifted. The sight of Mascher and Didi Hamman booting long shots high over the bar is another mystery - when these things happen time and time again surely they can recognise there's a basic technical fault?

You would think for the hours they spend training, the skill levels they must have and the money they get paid, they could put a dead ball where they wanted it every time.

Yes. You would think that, as do I, but plainly for some reason 1:4 seems to be the norm. Perplexing.

corners are a definate skill.
hit too hard and it shoots over everyone's head
hit too soft and it fails to clear the first man
hit too close to the byline/goal and the keeper easily gathers
hit too to far from the byline/goal and it is behind our players

macca had it down to an absolute fine art

I guess. anyway, aurelio is back and he is a very good corner taker (from the left).

One problem is they're a bit fixated on Torres going for near post headers, which look great when they reach him, but 99 times out of a hundred the first defender just heads them away. It adds insult to injury when they do those hand signals, as if they're dipping into a vast treasure trove of well-rehearsed routines. 'Aha - the two arms up with the left hand pointing forward - that means, er, same as last time'.

It's a pity it's not like American football where you could take him on and off when you needed him. He's not that good btw, just better

Haha, yeah, I think they do it only to try and give an impression that they've got something fiendishly clever worked out. TBF that probably applies to most everybody though.
