I cant believe that this is true.
If it is i would be so delighted with this transfer window (mascherano and aquilani leaving aside obv).

Nope. I refuse to get even a little bit giddy about this.

Haha, I was excited till Insua got a mention.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is keen on Atletico Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente and is ready to make a big money offer to bring the Spanish international to Anfield. The giant 6ft 5in striker has been a consistent attacking force for the past three La Liga seasons and is now part of Vicente Del Bosque’s all conquering World Cup winning side and could well be ready for a new challenge.
Llorente has been at the Basque club since the age of 11 and has proven a solid performer in recent seasons netting 53 times in the past three years but has seen Bilbao fail to make a move towards the European spots in the La Liga table.
Hodgson may feel that Llorente could complement Fernando Torres in a front pairing and now that the club has sold Javier Mascherano they should have funds to make an offer for the 25 year old. Having already offloaded Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera the Liverpool boss would hope to have money to further reinvest in his squad after bringing in Raul Meireles from Porto.
The fact that the Merseyside outfit have two prominent members of Spanish international side may well act as further temptation for the Pamplona born forward.

YES, YES, YES!!!

I've mentioned him several times on this board, oh I'm so happy.

I'm the one who pimped him out here first!!!

I thought that basque policy had been dumped for a limited number of foreigners at a time. No pointy bearded castillians though.

would be a good signing and much better a player than carlton cole. not sure about his speed in comparison to cole though, i'll go load up pro evo and just check.

story seems to be 1+1=10 unfortunately

Nearly jizzed my pants until I saw the Insua thing.
Like someone mentioned Bilbao has a Basque only policy so it's an impossible deal. However, can't we just pay them an extra £4 Million and get it over with.

BTW it's on wiki

On 29th August 2010, Bilbao accepted a £11million bid from Liverpool for Llorente. The striker has said that he expects a deal to be concluded in the next few days, subject to a succesful medical.

There is hope.. Maybe Insua has some Basque ancestry..

The club is known for its cantera policy of bringing young Basque players through the ranks, as well as recruiting top Basque players from other clubs (like Joseba Etxeberria or Javi Martínez). Athletic official policy is signing professional players native to the greater Basque Country, including Biscay, Guipúzcoa, Ãlava and Navarre (in Spain); and Labourd, Soule and Lower Navarre (in France). Still, in recent times, this policy has been somewhat relaxed and players with direct Basque ancestry or with no Basque ancestry but formed in Basque clubs have played for the team. This has gained Athletic both admirers and critics. The club has been praised for promoting home grown players and club loyalty. Athletic is one of only four professional clubs in Spain (the others being Real Madrid, Barcelona and Osasuna) that is not a sports corporation; the club is owned and operated by its associates (socios).

No, read it on Rawk...
Anyway, had a quick peek in Bilbao's official forum, mixed feelings from the fans, some are think it's a good sum, some worried, some think it's a recurring joke. I'm ready to bet on the last one.

This rumour came from Twitter earlier tonight, it's now being downplayed by other Twitter sources

You must be thinking of Real Sociedad, they were Basque-only until they signed Aldridge.
