Don't know whether it's the Christmas spirit finally getting the better of me but I'm suddenly feeling rather content about Rafael Benitez to be the man that'll finally lead us to Premiership glory.
Yes it's been and still is a rather bumpy ride, far to bumpy if you ask me, but when was the last time someone only had to walk through a slight breeze to finally get the hand of the princess and half the Kingdom?
We've been through our worst spell during Rafa's time at Anfield but mostly so because of our great expectations one could argue. We all reckoned this to be the final test (Season) before we once again could lift the trophy that we all crave so much (The Princess if you like) but there's apparently been one more troll in the shades to defeat.
I've read a few of the players responses in the media of late (Torres, Agger and Reina to mention a few) and they are all obvious downhearted because of our poor showings but in the meantime upbeat to show the Anfield faithfuls, us fans overseas and the rest of the world what they know they are capable of. They've rolled up their sleeves and sharpened their knifes.
In some odd way this incredibly abysmal run of games could've somehow tightened the knot between the players and make them perform even more like a unit. One could certainly hope so. I know Rafa will.
I like Rafa. A lot. I want him to succeed so badly and I want us to do so even more and I'm sure that we'll now see something different. I'm sure we'll see a team full of hopeful and determined men ready to make amends, ready to overcome the last obstacle in the hunt for half the Kingdom and the hand of no. 19.
It may not be enough, the troll might actually get the better of us, but we could still be in for a happy ending. I think we are.
Merry Christmas all.
6CM's the best.
