Fair enough?

I think his comments are pretty professional.

You're looking for something that isn't there in my opinion.

It's his livelihood. Would you not be looking to get sorted if you were told your job was over in a few months? They do this for a job. In the USA athletes are mostly applauded for doing the right thing for their family and themselves, often by leaving a team they've been at for many years to take a better deal elsewhere. For some reason in this country we expect them to play until we don't want them anymore without looking ahead for their own benefit.

I'm not so sure on this one. I would expect him to be eager and keen to show his enthusiasm for getting a new deal with us. Maybe I'm being cynical but it just smacks a little of arrogance to me. It would have been nice to hear him say how he'd love to hear from the club with a new deal. if he were Messi, then yeh, but he's not.
If we have a team full of players with this kinda ethic, it'll be harder to get them to give their all.

And the cap?

Not wanting to humiliate yourself in the media isn't really an indicator of being unprofessional.

Nothing wrong in what he says. He is being honest and in no way being disrespectful to the club.

Maybe I'm being harsh on him then, but I'm still not totally convinced. Ah well.

Why is he worried? He's been getting worse every year and is rewarded with a free transfer and signing on fee. How can he possibly say it's some sort of issue as though it's affecting him and takes all his professionalism to cope with. His attitude is delusional self-pitying nonsense.

Is it? What if he got a bad injury then, from a personal point of view that could be disastrous for him. I cannot see how you could possible interpret his words like that.
