Liverpool full-back Fabio Aurelio is available for selection once more following a freak knee injury sustained while playing with his son over the summer break.

The 29-year-old Brazilian has returned to full training and is set to make his first appearance of the season against Burnley at Anfield on Saturday.

Reds assistant manager Sammy Lee hailed the return of Aurelio, explaining that it will give more options for Rafa Benitez to choose from. Argentine youngster Emiliano Insua is currently preferred at left-back.

“Fabio will be like a new signing for us,†Lee said, according to The Liverpool Echo.

“He wasn’t available for pre-season, but he’s coming back and hopefully we’ll have him chomping at the bit and competing for a place very shortly.

“Any team likes to have all of their players available. That brings its own problems of course because you have to pick a team from them, but we would prefer to have that problem than a situation where players are out injured.

“Rafa has said on many occasions he is confident with the squad we have and we feel we can mount a challenge on all fronts.â€

;D ;D ;D

Let's hope he played like last season especially with the set pieces.

Did Insua travel for an international match? If so, Aurelio might well play against Burnley. Insua's done pretty well, and I don't worry when I see his name on the teamsheet or anything, but Aurelio is definitely the better footballer of the two.

We must have signed him 6 times now then.

Good news all the same.

And I believe it was a free transfer in all cases...

i like aurelio. he does take a few games to get upto speed though so i think we'd all be pleased if he can sustain a run until xmas at least.

any news on our saviour aquaman anyone?

"It will be like having a new signing"

Is it ever, EVER like having a new signing when a player who is often injured comes back from injury?

Having said that, I do like Aurelio...

It's now for the 17th time he feels like a new signing...

I've heard that Parry offered him a golden sign-on bonus for the first 16 times apparently...

Fab's just been on TV saying he'd been playing football on the beach when 'a piece of cartilage fell off my knee'! 😱 He's a delicate soul.

At home to Burnley would be a perfect game to get his back up to speed.

He'll get around 20 minutes I hope.
