I really, really hate the arrogance they display when, having made a howler, they act like their site doesn't smell afterwards...

Did anybody see that twat Mariner cast his eyes heavenwards at the end of the game, when the West Brom skipper was having a pop about that ludicrous penalty that he awarded in the 96th minute? As if to say "I couldn't possibly have made a mistake...". And that wanker at Highbury last week...

They get most things right, of course... They do a decent job, but they make mistakes, and once they heat of the moment has passed, I think most people are fine with that - But would it kill them to say, once they've seen the error afterwards 'Yes, might have missed that one' or something like that?

You really don't want referees doing post-match interviews. They get enough attention as it is.

I'd have been tempted to kick the ball at him had I been a Brom player.

It wouldn't be so bad if refs seemed to improve, but I'd say that the standard of officiating has actually gone backwards over the last few years.

That was a shocking desicion. Fuck me.

Indeed. And he was positioned perfectly to see it!
Looked to me like he blew his whislte and then paused for a second before pointing at the penalty spot, as if he wasn't sure what he was going to decide.

Well, think of all the bullshit they have to put up from opposition players when they make the correct decision.

Refs have to put up with so much abuse and criticism that they'll treat it all with complete disdain. That's not arrogance, that's just a plain survival instinct. Respect is a two way street.

It's making it worse now that Mark Halsey is a pundit. Everything he says seems to highlight how incoherent the refs' training is when it comes to the rules. In a recent match he was saying, 'Nah,that's not a yellow card because it was just a clumsy tackle'. Well most yellow cards are for clumsy tackles. Arguably most red cards are for clumsy tackles. When it's intentional they often miss it completely. But, yes, I do think they should admit the most egregious mistakes. They don't need to do it in front of cameras, but they shouldn't just slip away.

The booking for Phil Jones for his "foul" on Szczney was also a shocker, it was nothing more than an accidental collision and it was very obviously that even from the first viewing.
