England squad:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Cardiff City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Forwards: Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC), Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Jay Rodriguez (Southampton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Daniel Welbeck (Manchester United).

So Johnson, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling and Sturridge.

I wonder what the point of calling up Shaw is, considering that Baines and Cole already are in there.

Cleverly too? Is that a joke?

How has Caulker being doing this season?
I seen we were linked with him in today's telegraph though it could be lazy journalism because he played under Rodgers at Swansea

I'd have Huddlestone in there ahead of Cleverley, at least he's got a bit of presence about him and is occasionally excellent, a bit of an enigma and not everyone's cup of tea, but on his day he's a good player.

Basically pick everybody.

Been hearing a bit of outrage about Huddlestone not getting picked, Adam Johnson i can maybe understand given his form but Huddlestone?

Big immobile lump who never scores and can spray the ball around a bit whos having a decent season, he would be blowing out of his arse after 5 minutes in Brazil, theres nothing he offers that others don't and more.

England are going to need fit players with good legs along with some speed in that team, Carrick, Lampard, Milner and Cleverly should be fucked off straight away, just not good enough, any of them, if England have Milner starting games out there it'll really take the piss, maybe at a push it could be acceptable him coming on with 20 minutes left if England are winning but England should really be looking beyond the likes of Milner and those types.

Lo, writing those posts at the same time, stop and think about it for a second, Huddlestone, Tom Huddlestone, with all the midfield options England have, Huddlestone, hand on heart would anyone really want to see Tom Huddlestone in an England midfield?

He's been pretty good imho. Lot of talk about us scouting him quite heavily and I wont be surprised if we bid for him this summer.
I like him.

No, but does anyone want to see Cleverley? He's just a shit version of about 6 other players who are in there, Huddlestone was just an example, as in he's a big lad and a presence, which arguably is just about the only thing we lack in the middle. So I'd rather see him than Cleverley, because at least that's a different option. I'm sure there are better options out there, but anyway.

If England had a semi-competent manager it might suit them to set up like Liverpool.

--------------------Hart--------------------

Walker----Cahill----Jagielka----Baines/Shaw

------------------Gerrard------------------

------Henderson-----Wilshere or Lallana-------

Rooney-------Sturridge-------Sterling or AOC

Rooney in the floating Suarez role interchanging with Sturridge, Wilshere or Lallana as the creative AMC who threads the ball ala Coutinho, Henderson to provide the running and industry and Gerrard in his newish DMF role.

Quite. Unfortunately that'll end up looking like this:

---------------------Hart-----------------------
Walker-Cahill--Gerrard-Jagielka-Baines
Henderson-Rooney-Wilshire-Sterling---
--------------------Sturridge-------------------
-------------------Halfway Line---------------

Ha, that is unfortunately most likely true.

Cleverly, fuck knows, not sure anyone but Hodgson could answer that one.

Center midfield looks really good, Gerrard then any of Wilshere, Hendo and Barkley, even Milner if we have to see a game out who Hodgson unfortunately will most likely pick.

It'll only be a midfield 2 wont it?, Roy has suprisingly shown a bit of flexibility with 4231, so many options to partner Gerrard, if its a midfield 3 then Ox and Lallana are options to fit into that, they can play there.

Just don't see what Huddlestone offers that anyone else doesn't, plus hes slow which doesn't help his case at all.

That wouldn't be a suprise at all, fucking hope not though, have a strange feeling (fuck knows why) that Roy is going to try and do it right by playing young players and let them do their thing.

ridiculous how little depth there is to the strikers.

Andy Carroll is their best hope for causing any sort of problems to the other team. Wellbeck, Defoe, even Rooney and Sturridge will be laughably isolated and running the channels in the searing heat.

He was pretty good at Spurs and I was surprised they sold him. Haven't been paying attention to Cardiff games but if he's been playing as well as he'd done when I've seen him in the past, I'd be happy to see us try to get him when they're relegated. He cost Cardiff £8million; hopefully their need to sell after relegation will keep that price tag stable.

It's funny that Dawson was kept on at Spurs but hasn't made the England squad, but Caulker who was sold, has. 🙂

Cleverley?! Tragic. He'll probably be ahead of Henderson in the picking order too, madness. If I were England manager, from midfield onwards i'd just play the same as we do, swap in two of Wilshire, Chambermaid, Lallana or Rooney for Suarez and Coutinho, then just play compact and hit hard on the counter.

I imagine Luke Shaw was crying because he realised that being called up by Hodgeson totally negates any sense of actual achievement.
