Duncan Jenkins...odd story

Apparently Ayre's now involved and he's going to meet 'Sean/DJ/Groucho Marx' or whoever he is next week! ("I'm so sorry, mate. Will you forgive us if I give you a new season ticket in your name, and one in the name of the next character you create, and also a free ride on my bike, and four packs of Paul Smith shirts in colours of your own choosing?") The bloody MD ought to have more important things to do. He'll be having chinwags with Main Standers soon about all the cockneys shouting in their ears and banging their knees with the backs of their seats. What a shambles the club is these days.

I eagerly await the next installment of my word against his then.

The rumour was that DJ was a genuine football journalist who was using the DJ identity to tweet stuff that he couldn't tweet or reveal as himself because he'd get in trouble or lose sources or just because he didn't want the hassle if something fell through and everyone had a go.

A lot of people thought it was Rory thingy.

I followed for a while and then stopped because a lot of it was poor even as a parody and anything good always got to me as a retweet anyway.

Yeah, I followed him for a bit after reading one funny tweet - the problem was that every tweet he did was a remix of the last. One trick pony and not very funny at all.

I've got a dickhead twitter account but that's because some peeps on here told me to set one up, and it ended up getting quite a lot of follows. Not in the same ballpark as DJ mind.

Ohhh good when can I expect him or that nice Mr Chang to call round?
The seats are shit though

The pressure on Liverpool to explain their meeting with the creator of the fictional "Duncan Jenkins" Twitter character escalated yesterday after he received personal threats on an internet forum which posted an image of him and his son.
Sean Cummins, the 35-year-old copywriter who created the Twitter character, declined to discuss the matter publicly yesterday, in order not to draw attention from the latest developments in the campaign to establish justice for the 96 fans who died at Hillsborough. But the forum abuse, seen by The Independent, came four days after Cummins claimed the club's communications director, Jen Chang, had told him he would come under personal attack if he failed to make public the fact that @duncanjenkinsFC had no inside track on transfers at Anfield.
Liverpool's managing director Ian Ayre will meet Cummins at some point after Saturday's home game with Reading, when the writer may discover more about whether the club intend to investigate his own allegations that Chang threatened him when the two men met for a lunch lasting one hour and 45 minutes at Manchester's Evuna restaurant on 22 August.
The club said yesterday that there was no evidence of threats. Asked why a director of the club would spend such a length of time with the creator of a Twitter character, a spokesman said that "Duncan Jenkins" had a substantial social media following, including a number of national newspaper journalists, which authenticated him. He also said that the "Duncan Jenkins" account provided no evidence that "he" was a Liverpool supporter. There is no taped recording of the meeting, Ayre confirmed that he had been in contact with the writer but could not discuss the issue at this stage.
There was substantial support for Cummins on mainstream social media yesterday, with minority criticism from some observers on Twitter who feel the story is "one-sided." But no detailed picture of the meeting or the reasons for it has been forthcoming from the Liverpool end, to challenge the immensely detailed log of emails and text messages to and from Chang, which Cummins has preserved. There are no signs that Liverpool intend to sue over the claims.
Some observers maintain the view that Cummins is an attention-seeker, though this seems to stem from the "Duncan" comedy character, who as a fantasist aspiring journalist liked to say he was right, being confused with a real individual. "If I had wanted attention I would have dropped the cover and revealed it was me," Cummins said on Monday.
The Twitter feed of the sporting intelligence website – @sportingintel – yesterday published one of two images Cummins has secured from Evuna, which demonstrate that he and Chang met at 1.03pm on 22 August and parted company on 2.49pm that day. The respected Anfield Wrap website also has evidence that Chang did threaten to remove the Liverpool season ticket Cummins shares. Ayre told the Associated Press at the Leaders in Football conference last week that "in our 10-year plan, digital media is at the forefront of what we do" and the club have started holding dedicated press conferences for writers from beyond the mainstream media.

So is Ayre meeting him as he is genuinely invstigating the claims and perhaps jen is fucked ? Most likely he'll try sweet talk Duncan Alonso and brush it under the carpet. Christ it's embarrassing .

He was actually comparing himself to Steve Coogan the other day. I've always said how the club behaved towards him was outrageous and he deserves sympathy for that, but god he's got an ego on him.

Was he comparing himself to him as being as funny as, or was it simply a case of explaining that he was acting out fictional character, in a way comparable to Coogan?
Two very different points.

This. I read the post and your take on it is the same as mine.

Well, different, but both suggest he's an astonishingly high opinion of what he was actually doing. Most people can joke and post parodies etc and realise it's almost immediately forgettable nonsense that at best gets a smile before moving on. As soon as you start thinking about 'character development' and so on I think it's painfully precious and you're taking yourself way too seriously.

Or, as he is a massive Partridge fan, it was a simple and easy analogy to make? Seriously I'm not sure he thinks he's Coogan, he just stated that people gave Coogan stick cos they thought he was actually Partridge. Its only a comparison on behaviour from people towards fictional characters surely?

I saw Coogan on Question Time the other week and he's the last person I'd want to be compared to. He's an utter cretin.

You like him. Fair enough.

Personally I'd cringe even bringing another 'creator of characters' into a discussion about what some bloke got up to in his spare time. It's just a matter of opinion, isn't it? I'm allowed mine, aren't I?

Of course you are.

*handshake smiley*

Coogan steals minutes of my life every time i see him on the TV and its not the original Alan Partridge. He's as funny as dick leprosy.

He did The Echo Arena, it was the laziest act I have ever seen, he was more or less booed off stage. I don't know how he thought he was going to get away with it.

regards

Echo says that LFC will conduct an investigation to find out what Chang has been up to.....
