Dumb play on words thread name involving "Brighton" and "Gomez"

That's the end of him then, no player ever makes it back as a first team regular for us after a loan. Shame as I thought he looked pretty good when I'd seen him. Hope we get a good fee down the line for him.

Thinking the same. I mean bar Gomez, who do we have as back up?
Klavan
A young TAA
Makeshift CB in Lucas
Moreno (probably leaving)

We've got serious problems defensively and Gomez leaving hasn't really changed anything.

Regular first team football in the EPL for a 20 year old, no brainer. Comes back to us with experience and consistency at the age of 21.

Obviously we have a poor history of bringing back players from loan but at the same time he needs games to get fitness back and push on.

Probably this is the last we see of him but not sure there are any better options.

He looked superb in pre season two years ago.

He's looked shite this season every time I've seen him.

A loan makes sense as long as he actually plays.

Given the way his career stalled with injury a loan move makes sense. He's talented but he needs time to rebuild his confidence away from the crushing expectations of Anfield. Really hope he bucks the trend of loan prospects because there's a seriously talented player in there.

Nothing wrong with him going on loan for a season, especially another Prem team. Makes sense. Wasn't Beckham on loan at Preston when he was 20?

Klopp seems to see something in Klavan that many don't, and with us clearly chasing a top quality CB this summer, a loan deal would be good for Gomez.

If we actually managed to choose the club we loaned to properly so the player played a good amount of football it would help.

It's a bit early to judge Klopp on that perhaps, but Danny Ward looks a success story.

Bear in mind that the reserve teams are dire at getting players up to league standard & I'm not sure what else a club can do to develop players properly.

Say Klopp thinks Gomez needs a year of week in week out football to develop into a great CB, what else can he do?

CB is unique in that its almost impossible to get a young player there who can make the position theirs, age & experience is essential.

I agree with Klopp that a lot of our past loans have been a waste of time, so he's right to be suspicious of them, but Gomez does need games. I think Klopp genuinely likes him and just wants to get him back on track, so he could still consider loaning him out.

In Ojo's case, whom I hear is also likely to be loaned, I think it's the only sensible option now. The coaches have worked as hard as they can with him, and he's still got problems concentrating on the tactical and positional side of his game. He is, nonetheless, a player with pace, skill and real potential. So there's no point in keeping him in the reserves, and it would be rash to sell him at this stage, so loaning him out to a Premier League team, which appears ready to play him regularly, is the best thing to do. He'll either show Klopp he's worth taking back or he'll show him that he's unlikely to ever really mature.

Aren't you only allowed to loan out one player to any other prem side at any one point ?

Id rather Ojo got a chance to prove himself at this level at Newcastle or something than Gomez , who already looks competent enough to perform at this level and really is only lacking fitness , which he could get here

plus he would hopefully limit the opportunities klavan gets in the first team , he's worth keeping for that alone

And I think Ojo is more likely than Gomez. Gomez might go to Celtic.
More likely to get game time ?

@Nomad ah , fair enough. i dont remember us ever having two plates simultaneously loaned to prem sides but i guess that's more a quality issue than anything

I think Gomez would get game time at Celtic. Rodgers knows him and likes him and wants a more mobile back four, so it seems a decent fit. I'm really not sure Newcastle, or rather Benitez, would be good fit for Ojo - Rafa would probably lose patience with him after a couple of games. Somewhere like Brighton or Huddersfield would probably see him get more of a chance.
