Liverpool left-back Andrea Dossena has ended his unfruitful spell at Anfield by joining Serie A side Napoli in a deal worth a reported £4.25 million.
Dossena, 28, joined Liverpool from Udinese for £7 million in the summer of 2008 but started only 13 Premier League games in 18 months at the club as Rafael Benitez showed a preference for young Argentinean Emiliano Insua.
The highlight of his Liverpool career was a four-day spell in March 2009 during which Dossena scored in a 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League and then lobbed Edwin van der Sar as the Reds secured a stunning 4-1 win at Manchester United in the Premier League.
Andrea Dossena has put an end to a miserable 18 months at Liverpool after completing his switch to Napoli on a four-year deal.
The Italian club have confirmed their acquisition - believed to be around £4million - on Friday after the player passed a medical before inking a deal which will keep him in the Campania region until 2014.
"I'm happy to wear the jersey of Napoli," Dossena, who could make his debut on Sunday at home to Sampdoria, told his new club's official website.
"I chose a prestigious club with an important project. I cannot wait to play in Sao Paolo stadium before an unbelievable crowd".
Dossena joined the Reds in the summer of 2008 in a reported £7million move from Serie A outfit Udinese and big things were expected about the Azzurri international left-back.
But the 28-year-old, brought in by Rafa Benitez as a direct replacement for fans' favourite John Arne Riise, failed to adapt to the vigorous nature of the Premier League and soon fell down the pecking order on Merseyside.
Fabio Aurelio fast became Liverpool's first choice left-back for the majority of last season and the emergence of young Argentine defender Emiliano Insua has seen the Italian's chances to impress at Anfield diminish further.
The former Verona and Treviso performer scored just one goal in 18 Premier League games in Liverpool's 4-1 win at Manchester United, and followed that with another strike in the 4-0 rout against Real Madrid in one of eight appearances in the UEFA Champions League for the Reds.
Andrea Dossena and Andriy Voronin could complete transfers away from Liverpool today, Rafa Benitez has confirmed.

An agreement has been reached with Napoli for Dossena, while Voronin is heading for Dynamo Moscow.
The Reds have also received offers for Ryan Babel.
Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Napoli were talking to us about Dossena, they were very interested. It seems we have an agreement with them and also the player has an agreement with them.
"We are waiting for the paperwork but hopefully everything will be done today.
"He knew he wasn't playing too many games and he has the Wold Cup in the summer. He prefers to go to Italy to increase his chances.
"With Voronin we were talking with Dynamo Moscow and it's also very close. The player is talking with them and we're also just waiting for the paperwork.
"The weather conditions have made it impossible to progress with these things but I think it could be done within a few hours."
On reports that Birmingham have made an offer for Babel, Benitez added: "We have received some offers but the player was clear the other day when he told me he wants to stay.
"We have to wait. I was not telling him he could go, just that we were receiving offers because he's a good player. That's the situation at this moment.
"At this moment everyone knows Ryan has the potential and he can improve."
