Oh, he wears the number 20
He will take us to victory
And when he’s running down the left wing,
He’ll cut inside and score for LFC.

He’s a lad from Portugal
Better than Figo, don’t you know.
Oh, his name is Diogo!

Looks like Diogo got his new song and it's a banger. Good timing too because he stepped up on the pitch when we really needed him. That Arsenal 0:0 at home had me worried; we looked completely devoid of ideas in attack. The tweak of the front 3's to include some pace on the wing (Ox or Gordon) helped fix the balance, as did the inclusion of Jones in midfield, but most importantly Jota has shown he can be the man to get us goals – away at the Emirates that was rocking after 15 minutes, against run of play, no respect for the opposition. And he looks just as dangerous on the LW as he does in the middle, which means Mane will have real competition on his hands once he returns.

These were Jota's 14th and 15th goals in all competitions this season, which means he has already surpassed the total from last season (13). He's now clearly our 2nd most consistent goal-scorer after Mo and you have to say he should probably have scored a few more goals with some of the big chances he's missed – which means there is still room for him to get even better.

Hes turning into a fantastic player, he generally takes his shots early and doesn't over think it which gives him a high percentage chance because he often shoots before the keeper is set. He's not a super skillful player but he does all the fundamental things to a really high standard, positioning, timing his run, finding space, anticipating where the ball will come and getting up early for headers. Reminds me a lot of Owen without the blistering acceleration.

He's sublime, love how the ball just sticks to him...great finishing, quick and strong for a small guy.....heading ability for a small guy is the best in the league.

That chorus would work better (slightly tweaked) to the tune of Don't Go by Alison Moyet (as long as you make Diogo two syllables like Djo-go)

He's a lad from Portugal,
Better than Figo doncha know
Diogo!

His body frame is completely different, but the types of goals he scores and the way he scores them actually reminds me of Lewandowski (maybe it's because Klopp is teaching him the same things…). He needs to keep honing his movement and finishing and add an occasional longer-range strike - as of now, all of his goals for us came from inside the penalty area.

I also wonder if Jota is also party responsible for Mane getting less goals - you can see that many positions from which he scores are quite similar to Mane’s typical shooting positions - whereas Salah scores a completely different type of goal and is thus not affected. I don’t have the heatmaps to prove it, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that Mane is staying a bit wider when Jota is on the pitch and doesn’t make as many forays into the penalty area where the large majority of his goals (used to) come from.

He's undroppable. I don't think there even a question any more of Firmino starting over him all things being equal.
Obviously. I just said the same to my brother.
Jota is closing in on Salah in the PL scoring table.

What a signing he has proven to be. The signing along with Robertson shows more than anyone how good our transfer committee is. Salah, Mane, Van Dijk, Allison all were great signings. But they were a little bit more obvious. Mane was linked to United for some time.

Jota played for two seasons in the PL, not linked to any major clubs, I don't remember anyone here strongly advocating for him, signing comes out of the blue and starts delivering from day one, brilliant.

Again, completely different body shape, but there's something about him that fits my vague memories of Kevin Keegan. Tenacious, a great header despite not being tall, a good dribbler, and someone who often finds space in the box. Older posters will tell me if the comparison is ludicrous. Anyway, i think Jota should grow his hair out and get a perm to test my thinking properly.
