Diet

Ok so I don't think I have a bad diet but due to budget constraints and a desire to be more healthy I am trying to improve my diet.

I am not going on a 'diet' just trying to make lifestyle changes that I will hopefully keep for the long term rather than for short term gains. I don't want to be a vegetarian because I like my meat too much! However cutting down on meat is maybe a good idea, at least a meat free day a week?

One of the my nutritional strengths is making my own meals every night, I don't buy ready meals or much frozen foods. My main weakness is sweets mostly chocolate but desserts in general and a bit of splurging on the weekends.

I am trying to cut down on processed food and food high in additives as much as possible. I also hate the supermarket and am trying to stay away as much as possible. Especially here in Australia as there are only two and they are crap!

Does anyone have any food tips?

Here are some of mine.

Frozen spinach is great! Healthy and easy to add to most meals.
Nuts are great as a snack.
Trying to drink as much water as possible, Sliced limes and lemon from the freezer add a bit of flavour.
Dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate.
Green tea instead or normal tea.
Brown rice instead of white. Same for bread and pasta.
Save any bread and whizz it up to make breadcrumbs keep in the freezer.
Trying to keep away from cows milk. Soy instead.
Tomato passatta is piss easy to make and you can make loads and freeze it
Make my own pizza dough, freeze what's left.
Dry any fresh herbs by simply tying string around it and hanging it.
Make massive batches of bolognaise freeze in meal sizes.
Cant think of anymore but I am sure there are some more!
