Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs has refused to rule out the possibility of star player Diego leaving the club in the summer.

The Brazilian has consistently been tipped to leave the Weserstadion at the end of the season with Juventus the likely destination.

But fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich have appeared to have entered the race for the 24-year-old's signature.

The German champions are believed to be lining up a bid should their prized asset Frank Ribery depart to either Manchester United or Barcelona in the summer.

"We are Werder Bremen and we will always have to find out the circumstances of the business," Allofs told TV station Premiere.

"I cannot say we are not selling any player. Then there comes one bidding a big amount of money, but this is not just meant to be said about the future of Diego.

"If Bayern Munich gives us a call, I will not hang up straight away.

"We have a few enquiries about Diego, not only from Juventus."

The player himself insists he is happy at Werder and states that any decision on his future is entirely up to the club.

"I am not in the position to decide my future. This is also up to the Werder Bremen," he said.

"I have a deal with the club until June 2011. I am very happy playing at Weserstadion.

"If there is anyone interested in my services he will need to talk to Werder Bremen first."

Any takers?

I rate him but you can never be to careful with Bundesliga stars when one of the top scorers there goes by the name Andriy Voronin.

Is there anyone from Leverkusen we'd fancy over here?

Since they're getting one of our best ever players maybe they should reciprocate or something.....

Hmmm. We've been linked with Renato Augusto in the past.

Hey, how about Sean Dundee?

Oh.

Honestly though, fucking hell. Mr Dundee (not even counting the plethora of goals by Voronin) scored 74 goals in 214 games for Karlruher and Stuttgard, so no disrespect to Ribas Diego and Frank Ribery but I'd scratch all goals scored in the Bundesliga...

Stanner - dundee was a striker, diego is an attacking mid.

He's been linked very heavily with Juve ...

Not sure I want him as we have Gerrard in that position, with Yossi as a very capable backup.

Ideally if we are going to spend big on a player in an attacking position he should be able to play as an out and out striker, to cover for torres, or play off torres for gerrard in case he is out. There are few who can do that, one possible name that springs to mind is Zlatan......*ducks*

diego is good but he could not provide cover for torres.

The worst news out of that is that Bayern apparently expect to see Ribery going to either the mancs or Barca.

Neither is a good destination for us; don't want to seem him against us for the mancs and Barca would be genuinely lethal in Europe if he's there. What I don't get with the Barca theory is why he'd go there or why they'd be willing to pay big money for him. Is Iniesta on his way out - I'd see him here in a heart beat?

Diego would be a good signing. Problem is, we already have Gerrard who is excellent in the position behind Torres.

What we need is a player who will make the left forward slot his own, yet able to cover for Gerrard when he's unavailable. I guess it would be a stretch to say he should be able to cover for Torres too. I don't think such a player exists. But if we're just talking about the first 2 conditions, then Ribery is our man.

I imagine he'll be taking Henry's place on the left hand side. Having Messi and Ribery on either side sounds amazing, but it's hard to see Ribery ever beating Henry's 25 goals and 11 assists this season.
