Did we dodge 2 bullets?

Yup but if you're not good enough to get in the team you shouldn't be excused in that basis (or injury)
Spurs have been playing with two up front lately of adebayor and defoe, so the only place dempsey can get into the team is in midfield. He can't get in the team because it seems like its a choice between bale or dempsey in the team. So obviously bale is easily better than dempsey so dempsey is left on the bench. So its a bit hard to judge whether he's good enough or not.

Lets not judge Dempsey now. Ask again in 18 months time, when his legs might be like jelly and sitting there doing fuck all commanding 70k a week. That was our problem with the prices being thrown about.

Talking about this season is stupid.

Strongly disagree. For one thing, this season is every bit as important as any other season. For another, Dempsey is in excellent shape and is very, very unlikely to be in such a state in 18 months' time. Last but not least, if we lose out on the CL because we didn't have enough firepower in the first half of the season, that'll cost us massively more than we've saved by not signing Dempsey.

Zackerly– not easy trying to dislodge the best player in the history of the game.

It's ridiculous to suggest Dempsey would have gotten us to Champions League

IF and that's a big IF he had got us there then fine, he deserved his 1 year but then what if he can't get in to the squad due to his age/physical ability or we go out and get better players then the rest of his contract would be seen as a waste of money.

IF we don't get there then we are stuck with his wages when we can't afford then should his body begin to pack in we couldn't even use him.

And he's a been a total cunt the last two times he has played against us.

Being a cunt is not high on my desirable traits of journeymen footballers. You can act the cunt when you are fucking good. Not a player of Dempsey's standard.

It's ridiculous to suggest that's what I was suggesting. You and others have pointed to Dempsey's goal return so far this season as a supposed indication that he's shot his bolt. All I said was that even the number of goals he's scored would have got us a few points more and that those *might* be vital come the end of the season when the CL places are decided. And I stand by that.

"What ifs" can cut both ways. What if we miss out on a CL place by a minimal number of points, which more firepower up front could very well have won for us, given the excellent football we've played at times? Besides, the point bears repeating that Dempsey's a good athlete who is highly unlikely to fade away as quickly as you and one or two others seem to be suggesting.

Gerrard was a great athlete and look at him now. We can see it that he isn't the same player he was aged 30. You wouldn't offer him a 4 year deal as it stands.

No matter how well you looked after yourself, your body will always slow down when you reach your late 20s or early 30s.

How about 5 bullets?

Sigurdsson
Gervinho
Chamakh
Dempsey
Marvello

Imagine if we'd have landed those shit bags? Although there is case to made for Sigurdsson and Dempsey being merde sacs...

Dempsey didn't get a preseason, Fulham refused to play him because they knew he wanted to go, so he took a while to get fit at Spurs. As for Siggy, I think he looks quality.

Should I throw a stupid question back at you in retort?

What difference does a preseason make? Do you not think he was training away himself anyway?
And he played the same position for Fulham.

Of course it makes a difference, there's being physically fit and then there's match fitness. You need to play competitively at a good level and for decent game time to attain a level of being able to compete physically and mentally.

Lets see how his second half goes, bet he doesn't hit 9 or ten goals from Crimbo on.

Which is what would happen if the preseason was to blame

Depends on how many games he starts. He would have played a lot more games for us that's for sure. He's up against bale at spurs. If he was with us his rival would have been downing......big difference.

If you factor into the discussion that we ended up with Borini and Sahin instead, pity we didn't do a bit more bullet dodging.

Are you suggesting Dempsey would have ended up playing left back?? 😉

Dempsey is completely shit compared to our existing players like sterling, gerrard, suso, even fucking allen, cole and henderson. What makes you think he would be able to score even a single goal for us where those other players have not?

The fact that your assessment of him is fantasy.
