Del Bosque: Play Torres Less

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has urged Fernando Torres to delay his return from injury with Liverpool.

Torres returned to training in midweek following a lay-off with a knee problem and is line to return for the clash with Wigan on March 8.

European champions Spain are amongst the favourites to take the Word Cup crown in July and 59-year-old Del Bosque insists his country's chances would improve by Torres being kept out of action.

The comments could anger Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who has seen his talisman play just 21 times this season.

He has notched 12 goals during an injury-ravaged campaign that has seen the club struggle to hold on to the coveted fourth Champions League place.

Torres' recent battle with a groin problem was sustained whilst on international duty with Spain, reigniting the club versus country row that provides the backdrop to national team fixtures.

But del Bosque wants the 25-year-old to play less for the Merseysiders in an attempt to keep him in top condition for this summer's finals in South Africa.

He told the News of the World: "The fewer games Fernando plays for his club, the better it will be for us.

"We want him not to play too many games, to recover completely for the World Cup and have had some rest in between. We'd like him fresh for the tournament.

"That can only be good news for Spain. We hope Liverpool's loss will be our gain.

"Fernando Torres represents a crucial part of our squad."

Evertime he goes on international duty he comes back fucked.

Blimey.... I mean its fair comment really to say you want your strikers fit and raring to go for the world cup but he could perhaps have been a little bit more diplomatic there and held his own counsel... we are left without our best player for months on end due to injuries if not incurred during his time with the national team then at least exascerbated by silly tournaments like the confederations cup and general overplaying. Torres has not had a break from playing for fucking ages due to no small part his commitments to his national team.

Del bosque can rightly fuck off coming out saying shit like that.

Remind him who pays the wages and if he thinks he needs more rest to be in best condition for the world cup then he can rest him for the pointless international friendlies and nothing matches he always gets injured in.

They don't give up, do they? Nando's made his position crystal clear - which is probably why these nothing "stories" never seem to quote him directly.

This is exactly what Rafa should point out the next time Vicente is on the blower.

the irony is spain played in an utterly meaningless competition in the summer had torres not played he 'probably' would be in better shape now.

he is asking us to play him less when he himself should have played him less. okay that is more hyprocritical than ironic. 😛

He is a Madrileño which is blown out of the nose of Franco. He doesnt even know the word diplomatic.

Who gives a merry fuck what Del Bosque thinks, says, or wants?
[/quote]

The Spanish players I would imagine, which is the concern here, we dont just need Torres back we need him back and raring to go, not worrying about the summer and listening to this sort of shit

I doubt Torres would worry about or listen to 'this sort of shit'. He wants to play football and clearly loves playing for both club and country.

He's gonna play in the Summer anyway, lets just hope he puts a stint in for us first.

what daft comments..

im pretty sure he has been injured in the last 80% spanish international games.. and we are left to fight on without him.

to suggest that our loss is spain's gain is again.... just daft. It says to me that Bosque really doesnt rate Torres' ability to remain fit. Surely a fit -in form Torres would be better than one that has hardly played..
