Paolo Maldini played his 901st game for Milan yesterday ... Phenomenal stuff ...

How do some of the Milan ultra reward him?

With a banner that says:

“Thank you, Skipper. On the pitch you were an infinite champion, but you failed to show respect towards those who made you rich.â€

Wankers.

AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini reacted with fury at the negative send-off he received at the San Siro by a minority of fans.

Maldini, who criticised fans earlier this year when telling them to get behind the team during their struggles, was stung by some of the banners in the stands.

One in the south stand read: "Thanks captain: on the pitch you have been an infinite champion but you have lacked the respect of those that have made you rich".

Another one read: "For your 25-year glorious career our deepest thanks from those you defined as mercenaries".

That banner was accompanied by a big jersey of Franco Baresi, who Maldini replaced as captain, and with chants of "There's only one captain".

Maldini said of the fans who hung the banners: "I am proud not to be one of them."

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was equally disenchanted by what happened.

"It was only a minor section of the crowd," he said. "But they could have avoided that in what was supposed to be a special day for Paolo."

Roma won the game 3-2 to make it a very disappointing send off for Maldini.

Tossers, Maldini is an out and out legend and deserves better than that crap of supposed fans.
You would probably get it in a lot of places, but if somebody had left names out and told me of the incident then my first guess would have been Italy.

Ok, while we are on the subject of "shite fans" lets hear for the (minority) of tossers who booed Robbie Keane during the game yesterday. Learn the fucking Liverpool Way will you. And quickly.

We don't boo ex-players save for one special exception - El Hadji Diouf.

Honestly, I despair of some of the fans we've picked up along the way.

What did Paulo do in their eyes to get this response?
Maybe he won too many accolades and didn't thank them for their role in helping him?

And, as a side note to that - I was quite impressed with the way Robbie celebrated his goal. He never. He probably had every right to make a big deal about it after the way he was treated, but fair play to the bloke.

That's because, despite what some people think, the lad has tremendous respect for the fans and players of Liverpool Football Club. He also made sure he was the first to congratulate Stevie when he was subbed and also spent time with Sami at the end. In fairness when Robbie left the pitch he was given a good ovation by our fans - its always the minority who ruin it.

I know there are a lot of Robbie haters on here, and I know overall he didn't work out for us. But I can't help thinking that if he'd been given the same crack of the whip as someone like Kuyt, then he could of worked out a very special player for us. But hey, it wasn't to be, so good look for next season Robbie, in all games except ones against us.

Ive got another one for you.
Fabio Cannavaro came to Madrid when the defence was in fucking turmoil and Barcelona had just won back to back titles, he tied the defence together for the first time in years and won back to back titles in a wonderful 3 year spell.
Last night was (world player of the year, world cup winning captains) his final game at the bernabau, and only a handful of fans turned up to say goodbye.
Fucking shameful. Could you imagine that here? The game would be a sellout and the fans would never want to leave. I dont just mean HERE Anfield btw, i would imagine the same sendoff would happen in Manchester and Arsenal and a host of other clubs too.

It all stems from earlier in the year when Maldini said that the Milan fans should do more in supporting the club.

Those sections who portrayed negativity towards him yesterday obviously didn't like what he said.

Spot on.

Almost unbelievably, Juve fans are split about him coming back. Some are bitching about his form, others about his age. Even those who support the move are doing so largely because he's going back on a free. Numptiness knows no national boundaries.

It's pathetic. There's no excuses for it.

Aye sure even at Blackburn, on MOTD they showed Tugay getting a decent send off.

Wouldn't that apply to the Milan fans too?
I'm sure most of them appreciate the service he gave to club and gave him a good send-off.

Sorry, but I haven't figured out how to do the video embedding thingy but this is a link to those same "shit fans" paying tribute to the 96.

I think every club has at least a certain amount of shitty suporters. I also think Milan and their supporters deserves a little bit more credit and respect than they are getting here.

Remember seeing that and it was indeed a wonderful gesture. POint remains though, Italian football and everything about it these days is wank.

Count - I'm not saying 'all Milan fans are shite fans' but those in particular who hung up that banner and taunted Maldini are in that bracket ...
Italian football can fuck off. Twats (sorry Bologna).
It's alright, mate. I agree with you to a large extent.

What can I do though? I love footy and going to the match. I live here and so watch Bologna.

As for Maldini, WTF?

In the Guardian Gabriele Marcotti says he sided with the club rather than the fans over specific issues. I've no idea what he's referring to.

Marcotti's probably my favourite journalist actually.

My favourite of his was on talksport a few years ago when some cunt like Durham was bigging up Gary Neville before the world cup. Marcotti's response was "no one else in the world knows who Gary Neville is".

Durham went crazy about how great he was blah blah blah.

Marcotti responded that he wasn't in the top 5 right backs in the world, and the guys in the studio knew fuck all basically.

A bit more ranting from Durham...

Marcotti: "who's Italy's right back?" silence.... "who's Spain's right back?".... silence "who's Germany's right back?"... silence "who's Argentain's right back?"... silence.

Embarrassing.

Fair enough Wiz. I don't disagree with that.
Thanks for embedding the video. I will have to get a tutorial.
