Crouch

He's still doing his regular 1 in 4 in the league.

No better or worse than usual. Average and always will be.

Mark, the deal at the time made sense. His contract was running down and we got 11 million for him. He wasn't going to get games with a fit Torres (at the time) and a move was always on the card. I would like him here now obviously but at the time I presumed we'd have another option up front bar a young inexperienced French lad.

You have to keep decent squad players happy, Dave. It's about finding a balance between your best eleven and squad contentment.

Benitez has been shit at it, and it's cost us greatly in squad depth.

Not that I am saying we should have kept him, but we could do with a heaping helping of average at the moment.

With the type of players we are currently being linked to (Jones, Kevin Davies), I wouldn't be surprised if Rafa wanted him back aswell.

Don't get me wrong, I would love Crouch here now but at the time Iit did feel like it was a good deal. I presumed he would be replaced with another striking option that we could utilise in the absence of Torres.

Sad state of affairs.

It felt like a good deal mainly because we weren't using him, so his value to us was very little. But arguably it's cost us hugely...

Anyway, Crouch has moved onto a team with a better squad.

As has Bellamy. And Keane.

Fair play.

The Keane saga was worse and that deal has left us a striker short and a potential 20 million rated player(imagine Arshavin instead) down the drain. Lets not boter going down that road though, its done to death.

Back to Crouch, it's odd that he left us for first team football yet was happy to go back to Spurs and fight with Defoe, Keane, Pavlychenko (sp?).
Suppose he trusts good old 'arry.

I think at that point it was clear Pompey were going down the pan, and he jumped ship to a decent side at the right time. And although there maybe more competition at Spurs, all of them are easier to replace than Fernando Torres with one starting position.

I'm not convinced he'll make the WC squad, though. Cole & Heskey seem to be the favoured 'target men'.

I don't blame him either for jumping ship to Spurs at all, just ironic that he meant large spells on the bench again for him.

Doubt he'll make it to the world cup either, unless he plays himself onto the plane with a decent run in. Cole has been quiet after a decent start to the season.

He has displaced Keane out of their first eleven eventually but yeah, prior to that he's been more or less a sub for the last year.

Crouch was and always would be a useful player for us. Sadly he wanted more than an impact sub role.

Good luck to him but an impact sub is what he is.

Glock, please can you let us know what TheRule thinks about Ngog, who can't really be 'NoGoal' considering he scores goals.
